New to the bee, and waiting (yet know it’s coming fairly soon). We’re starting some tentative planning and I had a stark realization today.
I used to say I was never getting married again and I’m not the formal type. I’m very heavily tattooed. As in full back piece and the beginnings of a sleeve on my right arm, large piece on the left bicep and large piece on the inside of my left forearm.
Annndddd… I’m starting to panic. I’m wondering if I will look “odd” in a wedding gown. What style, etc.
Are there any other heavily tattooed brides out there? Some positive reinforcement and some dress style suggestions would be soooo appreciated. I love my tattoos (they are very much a part of who I am), so does SO and he has hinted he wants them to show for the wedding. But I’m honestly so worried about it I’ve contemplated eloping (which, won’t work because his mother would have my head). Anyone else?

Well, I only have 4…(2 on my shoulders, 1 on ankle and 1 on calf) but I can honestly say that I wear mine with pride and will GLADLY show them on my wedding day 🙂 I think they’re a part of you so why try and hide them? You’ll look beautiful! 🙂

I’m pretty heavily tattooed with a backpiece that will definitely be on show. I’m also wearing a pretty traditional lace dress and I think it looks awesome!
you should be ‘you’ on your wedding day! If you just don’t feel comfortable with the idea of a wedding or a dress, and that’s why you’re considering eloping, that’s different. But you will look fabulous, tattoos and all, if that’s what you decide to do. I like to think of them as my pop of color 🙂

I have several tattoos and have no intention of hiding any of them. I chose a dress that I like, not one that hides my ink. Just imagine how excited your Fiance is going to be when he sees you walking down the aisle just being YOU.

I love the look of tattooed brides, as well. I have a tattoo between my shoulder blades that will be visible, but I’m covering that up (it’s poor quality/faded). I love brides with sleeves. I don’t know why.

@MissThespian: What you have is what most of my bridesmaids will be sporting. They actually asked if I wanted them to cover them. No way!
@bellasperanza: YOU are WONDERFUL!!! Thank you soooo much for all the awesome links. There’s a photog among those links I would love to have. Sadly, she’s in PA. 🙁
@peanutbutter1205: Thanks so much… your post helped alot too. I do really want to do this the so called “right” way. I often wish I’d waited for Mr. E/ met him ten years ago, but I wouldn’t have been ready for him yet. I really can’t wait to marry him.
@Mrs Canuck: You go! I guess part of my problem is, I cant seem to envision myself in a wedding dress. I think I want alot of details, then think that maybe my ink is the “details” and should go with simple and understated.
Forgot to mention in my first post… his dad is a Lutheran pastor. A cool one, but a pastor none the less. I’m terrified. LOL
