Guys! I made my wedding budget completely overlooking the fact that tax season takes place smack in the middle of my planning. I knew I had to file, but whether I’ll get anything back can be a crap shoot sometimes. I was starting to get a little stressy and then after last-minute filing (today, I’m not ashamed, lol), I learned the my refund is about half my wedding budget! That plus our savings and we’re good to go! No credit cards (as I had expected), no loans (as I was dreading). and heading on our honeymoon without an ounce of debt. I’m so happy I could screeeeeam!!!

Thats awesome! Our wedding isnt until next year, but we’re getting our tax refunds back RIGHT when we’ll be making final payments. I was so happy when I realized that.

That’s so great!! And on top of it, it was forgotten and unexpected!! Even better!! We bought a new to us John Deere tractor with our refund, we call him Big John. 🙂

@allyfally: As an accountant, I just wanted to chime in…in an ideal situation you should actually not receive or owe the government any money come tax refund time… getting a huge refund is basically saying that you just gave the government an interest free loan for the year! (ie – you are receiving money back that you shouldn’t have given in the first place) So if you really want to maximize your funds try to find that equilibrium.
BUT of course it’s still exciting to get a nice lump sum of money when you weren’t expecting it 🙂

@Overjoyed: That’s great news! I was so glad when I found out my married status applied for the whole tax year so I got back a pretty hefty check this year. Sometimes being an adult isn’t so bad.
