KKML125 :  You will probably be fine. I am one of the very VERY few people who have had an averse reaction… I’m allergice to the P in TDAP, the Pertussis vaccine. It causes me to have seizures… but we realized that when I got it as a young child, which  you very likely did as well. If you were going to have a bad reaction you would have had it then, not now! Most everyone gets it as a child and if you didn’t react then, you are going to be fine now. As others have stated it’s a very, very few people who ever react badly to the vaccine.

KKML125 :  That is wonderful you are open-minded and respectful of others’ opinions, truly. But I have to disagree- there IS harm in validating certain opinions. The anti-vaccine movement is responsible for measles and pertussis outbreaks in the US- and these are extremely harmful to society. Herd immunity protects unvaccinated individuals, like young babies and people that cannot or should not be vaccinated for legitimate medical reasons. Unless you are asking the opinion of immunologists, medical doctors, or the real scientists conducting actual research (not “research” in the form of Googling super-biased, non-scientific sources) then it really doesn’t matter what Joe Schmoe or the Natural Crunchy Hippy Mommyblog has to say about vaccines. It’s like respecting the opinion that the Earth is flat (check out the Flat Earth Society- they have a very official website with lots of “proof”). You can not insult them to their faces, say, but I’d hope you wouldn’t consider their opinions with the goal of deciding iwhether or not they are true. I admit those anti-vaxx sites are persuasive and have lots of scary anecdotes about horrible reactions to vaccines- but you MUST remember that some sources should not be given the same weight as other sources (ie, legitimate ones!). Anyways, best of luck with your decision.

ETA: Also, there are opinions and there are facts. “Chocolate ice is better than vanilla” is an opinion. “The TDap vaccine is safe during pregnancy” is a fact, as is “the Earth is round”. There is most definitely a difference.

MrsAKSkier :  Thanks! I undersatnd it’s for the babies benefit – I’m just saying that here in Canada, they don’t vaccinate before the baby is born.  They wait and give the baby the vaccine directly when he/she is old enough.

KKML125 :  won’t get into my thoughts on vaccinations, but just remember that by getting it, youre protecting baby when he/she can’t protect themselves.
