For the last one I went to I just bought a wide brimmed straw hat , some tulle and a silk flower and decorated the hat myself.

The basic hat was the hardest for me because I have a big head- not a swelled head- just a big head.

Here is a hat JC Penney is selling for $99 that would be easy to craft yourself starting with a plain brimmed sunhat. There are lots of sunhats coming to the stores now.

If you can’t find a hat, you can always find a fascinator/headband – a lot of ladies wore those at my high tea/hat & frock shower! They look awesome. 🙂

I just went to a shower with an Oaks theme (the horse race that takes place before the KY derby..) and I needed a hat.

I seriously considered this one in ivory. I just loved it, in the end I borrowed one from a friend though. (But I also won the contest!!)

ETA: I had little to no time to make one.. wish I had. :/

I agree with the making a hat! I did for a tea party and it was super cheap and super fun!

You will laugh but I used my daughter’s tutu as a hat for my sis’s bridal shower tea party.  It was very very stiff and had a wire frame to hold it out straight.  I made ribbon rosettes and put them all over the brief’s section which went over my head.   Biggest hat at the party!
