This is going to sound really dumb, but I can’t figure it out. I’ve been playing around with printing addresses on envelopes. I’d prefer to use an image that I created (because you can’t rotate text in OpenOffice), but I tried to give it a shot in writer. I set the template to a 5×7 envelope, put the envelope in the printer, set printing to a 5×7 envelope, every single setting I could think of got changed. It still prints wrong, as though a sheet of paper is in there. The wording is cut off, that sort of thing. I don’t understand. I’m normally reall tech-savvy!
FWIW, I have a Canon printer…of some sort. MP241, maybe?

I open up a word document, set it to the right size and type in the address. I put in a sheet of paper and test it out first and see which direction is prints and if the spacing is right. Then I move around my text until it prints in the right spot.
How is it ‘printing wrong’?

@Birdee106: It’s cutting off the text. I type in the address, put the envelope in there, and it cuts off the first four characters from l-r and then part of the top line, as though it was expecting a larger piece of paper.

I struggled with this so hard! I was seriously about to give up and just pay for a calligrapher. It finally worked for me when I adjusted the page size in the page layout section to the dimension of the envelope (5.25xx 7.25) or whatever and quit messing with the envelope template.

@vorpalette: Okay so instead of using the default textbox that word uses on envelopes I add my own. I delete both boxes (return address and address) and then instert my own textbox that I can move around. Try doing what you did before but move your address box over closer to the edge so it isn’t getting cut off. I have noticed that once I get everything lined up correctly so it prints right, it always looks super weird on the screen. It’s never lined up how it should be.

@Birdee106: I did this already, simply because I wanted my envelopes set up differently than the template. :

@vorpalette: Weird. I’m always able to move it around and get it to print correctly. Did you change the page size in page layout as Osgirl suggested? That would be my only other idea.

@Birdee106: Not yet–I have to do this at home, and I’m at work. 🙂 I know I messed around with the printer/size settings, but I was doing so much at the time (running it through alignment/cleaning/etc.) AND trying to get ready to go somewhere that everything I did is kind of a blur!
