This is my first year teaching and I’m teaching middle school. I’m getting married 18 days after school starts and so I asked for my email to be aligned with what my last name will be after I get married and the school changed all of my information to what my last name will be. Do I just start the school year with what my name will be or do I use my correct maiden name for 18 days??
Also I’m not quite sure how to explain the situation to parents if I use what my last name will be and not my current last name.

I wouldn’t confuse kids and parents (and fellow teachers). Just use your married name – it’s only 18 days after all!

As I said in another thread, use your maiden name until you’re married. They’re middle schoolers, not pre schoolers. They know about marriage and name changes. No one will be confused.

Just tell the kids that you’re getting married shortly after school starts, so they can call you by your married name to make things easier.

I agree. OP, I would not ask your class or your students’ parents to call you “Mrs. Hislastname” until after you’re married.
