We wound up doing our wedding in July because I did not want to worry about planning a wedding in the middle of the school year! Plus, I wanted to be able to go on a Honeymoon right afterwards. A coworker of mine though did it the weekend before Thanksgiving. She then took 2 days without pay and did her honeymoon over Thanksgiving week.

I am getting married in July. I could not imagine going to work till Friday, and getting married on Saturday, and then coming back to work on Monday.

  • Wedding: May 2013

I might be a little insane for the wedding date I’m picking.  I’ll be in my first year teaching 2012-2013 (I’m in a credential/masters program now) and we’re getting married at the end of May 2013.  I’m hoping to be able to take 2-3 days off of work.  The reason we chose then rather than a few weeks later is because my fiancé is in med school and will be in his 4th and last year 2012-2013.  He’ll be done with it all in April 2013.  In the second week of June, right after I graduate with my masters and finish my 1st year of teaching, he starts residency.  At this point, we don’t know if his residency will require us to move.  So we’re going to have a CRAZY few weeks!

  • Wedding: June 2012

We picked early June.  Mostly to avoid the stress of the school year, but also because I wanted to avoid having to grade and lesson plan at night while adjusting to married life. I wanted winter wedding, but it wasn’t realistic with my schedule as a teacher.  Plus I didn’t want to deal with the name change confusion in the middle of the year.  Good luck deciding on a date!

I am in the final internship for an elementary ed degree and I decided winter break.  I didn’t want to wait until summer and wanted to get married during my time off.

We’re getting married a week after the last day of school, Sat. June 30, 2012. I hate that I had to plan the date around the school year, but it was important to me to not just squeeze it in, knowing that I can’t take days off for a honeymoon during the year. I didn’t want to wait until the summer for the honeymoon, let’s say if the wedding was in the middle of the year. And I didn’t want to get married let’s say on a Saturday and then have to go to work on Monday! So, I did let the school year dictate my wedding date, but it’s ok, the weather will be beautiful!

We chose June 2nd but I’m lucky enough to be on the occasional list so I’m hoping to not have a classroom this year so I can take time off before the wedding and also take time off in June for the honeymoon!

  • Wedding: August 2012

We have picked August 25th, so that I can focus on the last minute details without the distraction of school, report cards etc.  But then again, I start back up after labour day weekend…. doesn’t give me a ton of time to prepare!

I chose to get married in July (July 30th).  I ended school early June, and I wanted the rest of June to unwind and take time for myself.  Early July, I put finishing touches together for our wedding.  We went on our honeymoon immediately after our wedding, so I didn’t have to take time off.  When we got back from our honeymoon (around August 10th), I still had about 2 weeks until school started up again.  I liked that because I could do laundry, unpack wedding gifts, change my name, etc. before I had to begin work.

I told my Fiance I didn’t care when we got married as long as it was not before July 13 or after August 17. We end school June 29 and start up Sept 4th, so I wanted lots of time before and after so I didn’t feel rushed when it came to last minute details, honeymoons, etc. In Ontario you really can’t take a day or days off for a wedding or honeymoon. I mean, technically you could be “sick”, but I think it would be hard to play that off for your actual wedding day! Taking that into consideration, the only times we have a week or more off is Christmas Break, March Break and Summer Break, so that’s why we chose the summer.

The 27th of July just came about because it’s what the venue had available!

Oh! I want to add that my godsister got married two days after school ended. God love her, but as a teacher herself and with her entire bridal party being mostly made up of teachers I have no idea how they felt they had time to breathe! I think that was part of my decision to say that I wouldn’t get married for the first two weeks of the holidays. It seemed rushed finishing school Thursday and going to a wedding Saturday.

I wanted summer wedding at home (for obvious reasons) and my husband wanted a fall destination wedding (obviously can’t do that but he didn’t undertand the concept that I couldn’t just take time off). We decided on a fall wedding at home and planned it around a 3 day weekend and then I took a personal day Thursday and Monday so I had a 5 day weekend. No honeymoon yet. We are doing that this summer!

We chose the second weekend in July…gave me enough time to deal with last-minute details (classes go until early June for us), have a nice honeymoon afterwards, and set up house before having to report back the second week of August.

I am one of the few teachers I know who is NOT getting married in the summer/spring!  We decided on winter, MLK weekend, since we both already have off on Monday.  I’ll take a few days before (Thursday/Friday) and then probably a few days after as well (Tuesday/Wednesday). But since I see the kids in the library once a week, I’ll only miss one class with all my students (and only have to leave ONE set of sub plans!!) 🙂  We are probably going to do a “mini-moon” weekend away in the winter, and then take our longer honeymoon in the summer when we can take a few weeks to enjoy it!
