A great book along the same lines is Two Kisses for Maddy. It a book a dad writes for his daughter about surviving the passing of his wife after she dies from a blood clot after delivery.

Here is his blog

Oh god.  This is absolutely heartbreaking, but I’m glad that the mother was able to enjoy her baby being home for at least two weeks.

I absolutely loved her father’s wedding ring as a bracelet.  Gosh, she was so tiny.

Good luck to Melody and her health.

I also think it’s absolutely amazing that the mother was at least able to enjoy some time with her baby at home but the story is absolutely devastating. What a miracle that Melody lived!

@penguinsaremyfriends: I found that blog this spring one day at work and I was sitting here CRYING like a fool. I had no idea what the story was so I started reading randomly how they met and such, read the blogs leading up to the birth and then BAM! tears.

Such a touching, sad story. I don’t dare read that link right now. No need to cry at work!

Stories like that make me terrified to have children. I mean, not only am I scared for my own mortality and missing my childs life but the thought of leaving my child without ever really knowing their mother…

@hisgoosiegirl: Pretty sure that was an emotional suicide on my part. I have been sitting here re-reading through it and balling like a baby.

Ugh, stories like this really hit home for me. I’m the daughter of a mom who died four months after I was born, and my heart really goes out to these little girls having to go through life never knowing their own mother ๐Ÿ™

@Mrs Hedgehog: I’m with you! Hearing stuff like this makes me so anxious! Childbirth seems so dangerous. I want a baby soon, but whenever I read stuff like this I get terrified! ๐Ÿ™

Why, why, WHY did I open this thread!?!?   Being 8 weeks pregnant now, I never even think about my own health as it’s just automatically assumed that there won’t be a problem….. now let me tack one more thing on to my list of things to worry about!

I think there’s nothing sadder than the tragic death of a young mother.  An old friend from hs (we’d lost touch but she was good friends still with one of my best friends) was out walking with her 4 month old and 2 yr old and they were hit by a car, driven by a woman texting on her phone.  THe mother died but the kids survived.  My heart breaks for that family every time I think of them.
