I do that all the time with mine so I can’t imagine that would do anything. I don’t have any advice but I’m going to stop doing that just in case. Sorry!

Maybe try sticking it a bag of rice to draw out the moisture from the speakers? Sorry ive never had the issue with my Iphone, but ive heard the rice method works!

Try putting it in a ziploc filled with rice. I had this happen with my old iPhone a few years ago, when it was in my purse during a rain storm. The rice solved the problem – it draws out the moisture from the phone, so it helps to dry the inside.

@Mimoza:  I agree with the PP that rice in a ziplock has been known to work well. Is your phone still under warranty?

Oh man.. I’d probably power off the phone for a few hours, stick it in bag of rice and cross my fingers!  Sometimes Apple is really helpful though and will offer a replacement

I think it depends on the Apple store that you take it to. I had an old roommate that busted her iPhone and the people at the local Apple store were so cool about it that they replaced her phone since it was still under warranty. Maybe you could do a bit of a sob story about your phone to get it replaced…just a thought. πŸ™‚

This is going to sound really obvious, but make sure you didn’t accidently slide the button on the side to turn all sounds off.  Otherwise I would power off your phone for a little bit and then turn it back on.  It seems like my iPhone stopped playing sounds at one point, and after turning it off and on, the sounds worked again.

Good luck! I hope you get your sound working again!

@Mimoza: i bring my iPhone 4S into bathroom every single morning to listen to music in the shower and i’ve never had a problem. but i have accidentally hit the silent button before on the upper left hand side of the phone, and it did exactly what you are describing. if it shows red then that’s what you did (it’s on the actual phone itself not in the settings).

@Mimoza:  you have slight water damage. From the steam. I did the exact same thing. The apple worker specifically told me that “moisture” like from steam or just being out too long on a really wet day or splashed in the wrong places by a few drops of water if being used by the side of the pool or something etc. can cause water damage. I couldn’t get mine replaced because of that. Luckily I was able to get it to work again, I placed it in a cup of dry white rice for a day and it started working again after that. rice is supposed to draw any moisture out of the phone, who knows if this is what fixed mine but it worked. Its been fine ever since. it was super annoying though to not have sound.
