FI’s sister is a dental hygenist so she made me custom whitening trays for free. I am using the Opalescence whitening gel.

I use Sheer White from my dentist.  It is the LATEST AND GREATEST!  You sleep with it at night for best results and it stays put and doesn’t have the normal nasty taste to it!  It even whitened a tooth that the dentist said couldn’t be whitened!!! YAY! Oh and it does not make your teeth hurt!  BONUS!

Crest White Strips Advanced Seal. My dentist recommended them and said the advanced seal ones work best. I noticed a difference after 2 days. They’re awesome, thought they taste yucky and made my teeth feel not-so-great for a little while after.

I bought a groupon for Bling Dental Products- it’s a tray and gel- worked REALLY well. I used about half before the wedding, and plan to do touch ups every six months or so.

@MsMango83:  I used this, too, but, when I ran out, I bought back up tubes from Amazon for about 1/4 the price. My fiance shares the tubes with me, and he uses a tray that came with a cheapy whitening kit from the grocery store. Seems to work just as well as my custom made tray.

I also love the 3D advanced white toothpaste. It really works!

Please don’t brush your teeth with strawberries. That is like brushing your teeth with sugar, eroding enamel, and asking for a cavity. Sugary acid eats away at enamel, revealing dentin (the second layer of the tooth) that is darker and yellow in color. People used to suck on lemons to whiten teeth in the 70’s which caused havoc to enamel and rampant tooth decay.

I see that you are getting married in just under 3 months. I would start 2 months in if you are using professional whitening trays from your dentist, over-the-counter trays, and even the crest white strips.  A lot of people’s teeth tend to be sensitive when whitening. Most products recommend using them daily -but a lot of people can’t handle that –and need to space it out and wait a few days in between. Not all over-the-counter whitening products work for everyone. The FDA regulates the amount of peroxide concentration available to be sold over-the-counter.

OTC carbamide peroxide is effective for most people, but you still may need professional grade bleaching gel to achieve effective results. Starting the whitening products sooner will allow you to have ample time to achieve the shade you want, and ample time to allow the temporary sensitivity to go away (if it occurs) so you won’t be sensitive on your wedding day.

If you start early, and it works early, all you have to do is a quick touch-up before your big day!  You can use Sensodyne two weeks before and while you are whitening to lessen the likelihood of sensitivity.  Avoid whitening toothpaste and whitening mouthwash while using trays/strips to lessen sensitivity as well. Not everyone gets sensitive teeth with this, but these tricks can help if you do.  For most people it is minor. Occasionally you get someone who gets it so severe they cannot complete it, and the lucky people who have none at all.

Don’t want the hassle of trays or strips? You can try the ZOOM! whitening/one-hour whitening procedures that dentists offer.  I do not recommend the cruise ship one hour whitening, the *LED light whitening in tanning salons, malls and expo fairs.  Most people have paid $100 for these services with minimal to no results.  ZOOM! 1 hour laser whitening can cost $500-600 in most places, but a lot of newer dental offices looking for new patients offer great discounts on Groupon.

Also, Professional Crest White Strips work waaayyyy better than the other ones. Some dentists sell them; you can also find them on Amazon.  It has a higher peroxide concentration so it works better.

*LED is a blue light bulb and does nothing to increase effectiveness of whitening product. However, UV light is proven to be effective in some studies.

I am curious to know if anyone else has had results with the one hour whitening procedures done by tanning salons, cruises, etc. that has had successful results. Anyone I have met was super disappointed.

My father is a dentist so I know the routines, but I have tried lots of whitening products! Of course you can always get impression molds done and buy the Nitewhite syringes from your dentist office 10% solution and depending on the senstivity of your teeth (mine are very sensitive) I only wear my trays about 20 minutes (every week). However before I got my trays I did not want to sit and wait for the dental lab, so I used Crest 5 MINUTE 3D whitestrips (gentle routine) – it says gentle routine on the box. And I used them every day – for a week for only 5 minutes and it whitened my teeth about 2 shades (which is pretty significant). The dentist and all the expense is around $500 where your Crest strips are $35.  However the Nitewhite and trays I only have to use once a week for 20 minutes for maintenance.
