Just over 3 weeks before the BIG day, and we finally had our engagement photos done. We won’t be using them for anything (maybe pick one to display at our reception, but not sure) but wanted to get comfortable working with our photographer (who I love).
I had no idea what to expect, and not sure “how we did”.
So tell me about YOUR session: how long did it take? How many changes of clothes? What did you wear? Did you have your hair and make up professionally done? Were you nervous? Did your photographer pose you a lot, or did you and your honey just goof around and play it by ear?
And show me your favourite. 🙂

@SeaSalt: Our session took about 2 1/2 hrs total. He took around 500 pics. We had 2 outfits.
First half we wore casual and second half a bit dressy. Casual was done in ally ways and by the water and dressy was done in a park and a nature trail. For casual I wore denim capris and a hot pink t-shirt with black flowers and he wore khaki shorts and a black t-shirt. The colors for our wedding are hot pink and black so that’s why we did that for one outfit. The other outfit I wore a teal dress that wasn’t really dressy and he added a blue, black, and white button shirt over his black shirt. Fiance hates getting his picture taken so he wasn’t excited to get them done. I don’t mind getting pics done i just don’t like how I look in them. (Fat or a crooked nose)
We had so much fun and we were so comfortable with our photographer. I’m so glad we got them done because now we know what to expect on our wedding day and I won’t be nervous wondering how he’s gonna be.
I was so nervous before we started. I did bring my IPad and showed him pics of some poses I liked and we did do a few. He told us how to pose on most of them, but a few we just did whatever and he said don’t move and took a pic. Funny thing is he asked me if I’ve ever modeled before. I kinda laughed at first because I thought he was joking, but we was serious. Lol I just had may Senior Pics professionally done, but that’s it.
I did my own hair and makeup. I didn’t want to look over done so I just straightened my hair and a it a bit poofed in the back and I did kind of a smokey eye which went well with both outfits.
We did get to see a sneak peak of 6 photos and I LOVED 5 of them. The other my Fiance was squinting from the sun. I can’t wait to see the rest of them in 2 weeks!

We had our engagement session a few months ago. It took about an hour and a half or so. We only did one location and one outfit, but she said we could have done two of each. We went to the beach (because we got engaged on the beach) and she gave us some direction, but she didn’t really “pose” us much. It was so relaxed. I loved it!
Here’s my favorite.

Our e-session was only 45 mins. We did it at my parents house. It was okay. I liked the photos I got back but was disappointed at the poses we took that we did not get back (the ones by my parents lake I REALLY wanted!). We kinda goofed off and I hated that our photographer had just gotten a new camera that she never worked before to use for our photos! Oh, and I did my own hair and my mom did my makeup

I agonized over what to wear. Had 3 outfits picked out – jeans and a black top, and 2 different dresses. Photographer told me not to wear the jeans outfit bc my top was dark and FI’s was light so it would effect the exposures or something…
It def took me a while to get comfortable. We brought wine for some of the photos and the photographer told me just to chug a glass cuz it would help me loosen up hahaha! We took ours on my dad’s sail boat, at the yacht club, and the beach and area around the club. We’re still waiting for most of our pics to come on a dvd in the mail, should be minimum 100 I’d guess, probably more bc we had him for a few hours. But he put about 20 on FB … only with our final outfits. I love them but I hope the others are just as nice.. worried they won’t be bc I was so stiff and nervous!

Oh and you wanted to know how long we had? He usually only does 1 hour shoots, but he doesn’t drive and we picked him up and brought him the 45 min drive to the boat club and he was so excited to go out on the boat (he used to sail) so we ended up taking about 2-3 hours for our shoot in total bc we took the boat out and actually sailed and got photos doing that

@MrsPhilly: We considered doing our at our yacht club as well, and on our boat, however we’ll have lots of pictures on the boat and at the YC on our wedding day, so we went with something different. I would like to hire her sometime in the future to take photos in that setting though, when we aren’t in our wedding attire. 🙂

This one is my favorite. I don’t know why. It’s kind of ridiculous. @MrsPhilly: that first picture is absolutely gorgeous. wow.

The details from our session:
- I did my own hair, but had my makeup professionally done
- My photographer told me to bring at least one change of clothes, and the more the better, and she would choose for me (my outfits should coordinate with my Fiance, but not be matchy-matchy)
- I brought: red platform heels, white pants, white pencil skirt, blue lace shirt, black low heel slingbacks, a black sundress with white polkadots, a black cardigan, a navy and white stripped shirt, skinny jeans, blue and white flats, and a coral j-crew dress.
- she had me wear the outfit I came in (white pants, navy lace top), the polka dot dress, and the coral dress
- our session last 90 minutes, just a little more
- we photographed in 4 spots around tha same location (had to drive to the last one): 2 spots along the waterfront, along the train tracks close by, and in a park high up overlooking the water
- she didn’t pose us at all, which kind of surprised us and worries me (though I shouldn’t be, I know). I fear that all of our photos will look the same, only with different background and outfits. It’s silly, and without seeing how she used light and framed them is completely unfounded.
Anyhow, I should get a link to our proofs next week. I didn’t think I cared about them as we aren’t going to use them for anything, but I’m super anxious to see them now that they are done.lol

Our session took about 2 hours and we had 2 outfits. One casual (baseball) and one more dressed up (nice sundress & button down). I did my own hair and makeup:)
as far as posing, she would give us an idea if what she wanted and then we would just run with it…acting natural:) I’m sure you’ll do great!!

Our session took about 2 hours ish. We’d had to delay it twice because of rain, and it started to rain again close to the end of our time. We didn’t do any outfit changes, but we wanted FUN pictures. These are our favourites.

Ours took a couple hours. We didn’t do any outfit changes, bc we were in the middle of downtown. I did my own hair and makeup. For posing, I’d say it was 50/50. She’d give us directions then we would just play with it. Here are some of my favorites.

Ours was about 2 hours. I had 3 outfits and 2 locations. We met in highschool so we went back there for some, and then went to a nature center for the rest. We met in yearbook class so we incorporated our yearbook into the pics. We got about 30 pictures back. We mostly used it to get comfortable with shooting with our photographer! 🙂 As far as posing she would give us some direction. most of the time she was like just do your thing..

Oh, and my photographer’s bestie is a makeup artist, so she did my makeup and hair. We obviously posed for the ghost and kool aid man pics, we have a few of us goofing off too. We had fun. I was nervous, but I got over it quickly.

Ours was two hours, we just kept the same outfits on the whole time. I was nervous because I’m not very comfortable having my picture taken. I had a haircut that day to make sure it looked good and did my own makeup (I don’t normally wear makeup so I kept it very minimal for the pictures). Our photographer suggested some poses to us but also let us be natural with each other. And we had some ideas of our own for poses that she was very happy to incorporate 🙂
Here’s a pose that she suggested. She told me to come up behind him and put my arms around him. Then she had him put his hands in his pockets and look back at me over his shoulder. I love this picture 🙂
This next one was just us being natural. We were posing with the cards and Fiance turned and kissed me and she snapped the pic at just the right moment. It made a perfect photo.
And this last one is a pose that I suggested. Our photog was great about going along with whatever we wanted. We got in position and she gave a few pointers (posture, etc.) and then took the picture. It came out exactly how I wanted it to 🙂
