I love love love Greece.  I highly recommend staying in Oia while in Santorini.  It’s pricey, but it cannot be beat.  The views, the sunset….it’s so romantic.

It was amazing.  Lot’s of steps though, but it helped with all the tzatziki I ate!

Also, are you set on Mykonos?  We went to Paros the last time and I loved it.  More rural, but so beautiful.  And we went on a boat trip through Michael Zeppos and it was probably my absolute favorite part of the trip.

Actually, Mykonos is really wonderful.  I’ve been to Greece twice.  The first time we did the same itinerary as you have now, the second time we skipped Athens and went to Mykonos, Paros and Santorini.  I’d skip Mykonos next time since it’s more the party scene and I am more into relaxing.

But Mykonos town is really nice and they have nice beaches.

ceebees :  santorini is one of my favourite places on earth! I personally would avoid staying in oia. We found it too touristy and crowded. We stayed in imerovigli. It’s smack in the middle of fira and oia. It has similar views to oia but it’s more authentic.  Plus you can walk to both oia and fira if you feel like. Our favourite restaurant was Anogi. Best food I’ve had in Greece!  Don’t miss the sunset catamaran cruise! We stayed in the honeymoon suite in avianto suites. Private hot tub and they serve breakfast on your private terrace every day! Sunset view and people often tried to get to where we were to take pics!  I’m very jealous that you’re going!

100% percent recommend Nikos in Mykonos for frozen Greek yogurt. It was the best frozen yogurt I’ve ever had.

Following because we are honeymooning there over Labor Day this year! Just booked our tickets yesterday and cannot be more excited. We are doing Santorini, Naxos, and ending with a day in Athens.

I AM SO JEALOUS! We did a Santorini/Athens/Mykonos trip two summers ago and SO and I seriously considered moving to Greece we loved it so much! Maybe we’ll have to settle for retirement haha. September is a great time to go, it’s just off “peak” season. It’s still busy, but not suuuper bad.

Santorini truly is a slice of heaven. We kept it a mix of active and relaxing activities and I am so glad we did! My favorite part of our whole trip was a sea kayak expedition with Santorini Sea Kayak. http://www.santoriniseakayak.com/ we had booked a day with a group, but then the two other couples that were supposed to be in our group cancelled, so we basically had a private day out on the water! Kostas was our kayak guide and he was AMAZING and hilarious. He packed a picknick lunch for us to enjoy on the black sand beach and it was so private and amazing. They take photos of the whole experience and then email you a private link to get your pictures a few days later.

The other cool thing we did on Santorini that I recommend to everyone is renting a Vespa or 4 wheeler for the day and riding along the Wine Roads. You can’t miss them, you’ll see signs all over the island (outside of the cities of Oia and Fira) with grapes on them and they’ll have arrows pointing down roads that have vineyards. Makes it very easy to just drive around at your leisure and do wine tastings all day!

Have so much fun!!! You’re going to love it!

Definitely Oia! During sunset, it turns absolutely magical. Oh, and the food in Oia was glorious- vegetables are especially flavorful because of the volcanic soil!! I don’t even remember where we ate but we didn’t have a single bad meal, even at the touristy seeming places. The tomatokeftedes shouldn’t be missed.  If you’re into books, chances are that you will love the Atlantis bookstore. Note inside the bookstore: ‘We apologize, we don’t carry ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, but may we recommend ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’ instead?

Athens: We stayed in the Plaka district, which is where all the action is. I would eat at one of the lively little tavernas on the steps of the Acropolis, rather than any of the prix fixe places, where the food can be a bit disappointing.

ETA: Floga was our favorite restaurant in Oia.

Ah! I’m so jealous. Santorini is my favorite place on earth (so far anyway!). We went for our honeymoon too and stayed in Fira, which I loved. I don’t really think you can go wrong anywhere you stay, but I’d opt for a hotel with with a caldera view for sure. We booked a wine tour & catamaran cruise through amazing-santorini.com and both were super fun. Lucky Souvlaki’s is a really fun/casual place to grab a quick lunch & a beer.
