I’m about to colour my hair (just brown, to cover some greys!) and I got thinking about home hair disasters. My sister once modified a photo of me, and changed my hair from a dirty blonde to a white blonde. I really liked how the photo looked, and decided to colour my hair the same! I was a little tentative with the bleach, then thought ‘the more the better!’. Wrong! I had canary yellow hair. I had done it at night while SO was at work, so I thought I’d wait till the cold light of day to see if it was still hideous. It was, so I coloured it dark.
I also colour SO’s hair, I used to take literally hours doing foils, then we decided a tipping cap would be a good idea. I pulled lots of hair through every hole, slapped on the bleach and some time later, he had mostly yellow hair. Oops.
Tell me about your disasters!

argh people dont realise that bleach removes your natural hair colour,leaving that warm,brassy,yellow colour.More often than not it need toning lol.
Before I trained as a hairdresser, I tried to cut my own fringe, and it ended up getting shorter,and shorter,and shorter as I tried to fix it lol!

@family_girl: oh, I’ve done that too! I always think ‘its just a fringe, how hard can it be to cut?’. Turns out, impossibly hard!

@Deejayelle: pahaha I have a ton!
The first. I was nine. My hair was in a pony, and one stupid spot smack dab in the middle of my hair line was sticking up. SO I pulled it out of the pony. Now mind you this strand was like the thickness of a pen. And I did what any nine year old with a stupid peice of sticky up hair would do. I cut it off. To the scalp. My mom came home and looked at me horrified ad asked “Honey…. Did you cut your hair?!” Cue huge precious moments eyes “No Momma!” I looked a damn fool for a year while it grew back.
I Was 13 and let my aunt “highlight” My hair. She used foils and bleach on my naturally dark brown hair. It looked like i had banana peels on my head.
I was 16. I cut my long curly hair into a straight up Snow White bob. It looked pretty cute straight. When I let it go natural, i looked like Carla from cheers. Awesome.
I was 17. I tried a middle part. With heavy bangs. WTF.
I was 18. And depressed becuase my Girlfriend broke up with me, I desparately wanted to look different. So I dyed my hair black. This in and of itself is bad enough. I looked sick all the time. Which made me want to get rid of the black. My solution was to try to BLEACH OUT THE BLACK. This of course did nothing to the black but dyed my roots florescent orange and made my hair so brittle I couldn’t risk another process. So I rocked the Halloween looks for awhile.
Now at 21 I keep pretty much the same hair cut I have always had and stopped dying and heat styling it all together. I am not to be trusted with experiments. Hahaha

When I was 15 I went through a bit of a goth phase. I got my hair dyed what was supposed to be a black with maroon undertones. First time I’d dyed my hair and I even went to a “professional” (as in a family friend who was licensed). Well, that’s when I learned my naturally medium brown hair has auburn in it too and that it grabs red tones. My hair was plum purple for months because of that stuff!
After that I was 16 and had my first real bad break (and last since I met Darling Husband a few months later) up. I decided I wanted fire engine red streaks in my hair. Cue 4 hours of my past-the-shoulders length hair getting pulled through a cap and then the bleach not taking so the red could be applied so we had to wait for it to color all over again. the end result was typical of a slightly rebellious teen but when it grew out I had some weird mix of black (from the purple experiment the year before), brown, and luckily not brassy blonde going on. When Darling Husband and I met he referred to me as “the gothic rainbow”.
I haven’t colored my hair since, not even highlights.
