Who out there has done a DIY photobooth and what advice do you have? I have been trying to justify the cost of renting a photobooth for months now and I finally came to the realization that it can not be done. (Note: I am the queen of rationalization, so if I can’t justify it, no one can.)
Any and all advice is welcome, I am particularly interested in how the printer situation went for anyone. (ie – how many times did you need to change ink, paper jams, etc.)

i did one!
it turned out great – i used the sparkbooth app. http://www.sparkbooth.com
we had it set up on our hp laptop but used a fixed webcam rather than the built in one (we thought it took better still pictures)
we only had to change ink once – but i designated my brother to check on it.
i didnt have any problem with paper jams and i used a full size all in one hp printer but i used kodak photo paper 5×7.
one advice – test test test! and make sure the lighting is really good – the first half of our pictures turned out great but once the turned the music up and the lights down the pictures werent nearly as clear – they were still funny but just a little fuzzy.
everyone had a great time with it!

@totheislnds: We are going to use SparkBooth as well! Great advice on the lighting, I’ll have to look into that… We have some professional lights at work that we use for photoshoots, I wonder if I could use one of those…
Fiance also wants to use his all in one HP printer, so good to hear that one went well too.
Did you do color or black and white pictures? How many pictures do you think you went through that night?

@cheapchicbride: i did color pictures – i didnt even think about black and white – im not sure why….but we had tons of props so the color was good. we also built our own photobooth out of pvc pipe and cheap red curtains from walmart.
we bought 3 packs of 100 – 5×7 kodak photo paper i would say we probably went through 1 pack – but i had no clue how many we would use so i overbought. (you can always return it later) i dont know if you are having kids at your wedding or not but they will use alot of paper for sure! we didnt have too many kids probably a dozen but they got a kick out of it….my flower girl was in there all night with my brother haha she is 6 – he is 24 – i think i have like 6 or 7 different sets of pictures of just the two of them. too funny.

we’re planning to just set up a digital camera on a tripod. i’m still debating whethere i should get a mini printer that hooks up to the camera that let’s u print it instantly. if we don’t go this way, then we were just gonna post all the photos on our website. i frankly don’t trust people with a macbook at the wedding… especially the ones that have been drinking.
we have lots of props made though like mustaches, lips, bows, monacles, glasses, speech bubbles, etc.
