This summer I’ve had a whooole bunch of weddings to attend/be in, plus some weekend trips, so I’ve definitely been more into painting my nails.  Normally I leave them bare and just file and buff them as I am constantly in my garden getting dirt under my fingernails (like literally 3 times a week…do you know how HARD it is to get compost out from under them?  God it’s like it’s glue sometimes) or painting my porch or whatever.

But this summer I have totally rediscovered my high school love of nail polish!  I used to get professional manis; awhile back before I began working in a hospital I had acrylics and loved them but eventually decided they were too annoying.  I’ve gotten really good at my own technique and love doing funky designs…right now I finished putting on L’Oreal’s Royalty Reinvented (neon pastel purple) with flowers and dots on my ring fingers.  Yes, I am also home sick with a cold so I actually have time to sit around and do this   🙂

I’ve NEVER had a manicure, and I will ALWAYS do my own nails (or have my sister or someone do it for free).

I work in a lab, and my nail polish gets destroyed almost instantly.  I won’t pay $15 for a one day manicure.

That, and because of the lab, my nails are super short, so it’s not like a manicure could do much anyways!

@btothez:  I do my own. I tend to go with a block colour (either red, pink, or nude), or, if I’m feeling a bit ‘chavvy’, a french manicure with white tips. I’ve been good at doing my nails since I was about 10; I used to do a lot of nail art (I once painted perfect Union Jack flags on my nails lol) but don’t like it nowadays. I’m also lucky to have nicely shaped nails, and they’re usually in decent condition (nice and strong and smooth).

I’d like to try Shellac or Gellish purely because of how long it lasts; and if I like it, will consider this for the wedding.

    I don’t like falsies, and don’t like nail art/glitter/etc.

I rarely have time, but right now they are electric blue with slightly darker blue tips (straight across, not curved like a French manicure). Painted myself. Occasionally I treat myself to a manicure.

I have my nails wrapped right now because I am afraid they will all break off before the wedding! I plan to have a deep red color on my nails to go with my Jenny Packham art deco style dress. Cant wait!

I do my nails myself, though most of the time they’re natural. I only go to the salon for special occasions. I have the Gelish kit and LED lamp from Sally Beauty, and it actually works pretty well.

I paint my own nails at home. I have nice, strong nails.. so there’s no need to get fake ones.. and I can do just as nice of a job on my own as they can at the salon.

I did however get a gel manicue for my wedding. I loved that the paint lasted so long.. but my nails are still damaged! I think it was the way she took it off.. she let them soak for a bit and then literally scraped the polish off,  I still get chills thinking about it! Now when I paint my nails I can see marks from where the tool had scraped my nails.. and for some reason polish hardly stays on my nails longer than a day or two now, it used to stay on much longer.. I’m not sure if that has to do with the gel manicure, but I never had that problem before getting it done. I won’t be getting another gel manicure.

@badabing88:  I’ve never tried acrylic, but I love your nails! The nautical ones are awesome.

I usually do my own nails, and occasionally get basic polish done at a salon. I recently tried lacquer strips from Sephora, like these birdie and cherry-print ones (just on weekends or trips though… a little too bold for my office!).

I always get a regular manicure done every week and a pedicure every other week. I get gel when I’m going on vacation or really need it to last for some reason. I used to get gel every 2 weeks then my nails started to get really thin. I love the gel but I don’t think it’s so great to do it all the time, just my opinion.

If for some reason I can’t make it to my regular nail appointment and my polish is all chipped off, I will take it off and just put a sheer pink on myself, which is the only color I can apply and not look horrible. And that’s only until I can get into the nail salon.  I am absolutely awful at applying polish and I don’t even attempt it on my toes it looks like a 3 year old did it, lol.

I never get tips or anyting like that I prefer to keep my nails short, I can’t stand when they even get slightly past the tip of my fingers.

Where I live, regular mani is like $8 and gels are only $22 so this is afforable, but in the suburbs it’s much more expensive from what I have heard.

My nails grow very fast and strong, but regular polish does not stay on my nails long.  I  vary between getting my natural nails professionally manicured with shellac, polishing them myself, or having them plain with no polish at all.  I just soaked my shellac off my nails last weekend, so this weekend they’ve been bare.  I like to let them “breathe” a little! lol
