We got enaged just over two weeks ago so I’m still buzzing and loving telling the story.

Mine was a complete surprise because A) I was convinced he couldn’t surprise me.

B) I thought it wouldnt happen until at least Christmas – given that’s when he would be able to ask my dad

C) I didnt think he had thought about a ring (We share our finances and budgets – and there were too many other big purchases coming up) It never occured to me that he might propose with a temporary ring. I had told him to look at my pinterest if he ever needed to!

and D) we were in France on part of the trip that I 100% organised – all he knew was that I was most looking forward to hiring a tiny 2 person row boat to go up canals.

Little did I know, he called my dad in another time-zone while I was in the shower, and had taken my grandmother’s enagement ring from my jewellery box!

Yea so half way through our magical boat ride, he started saying all these nice things and that’s when I noticed his voice being a bit funny – he never gets nervous. So i thought “Hang on a minute…” then next thing I know he says “Will you marry me?”

It all happened so fast, including the bit where I said yes! I always thought i’d cry but I was too surprised haha.

Needless to say it was a perfect day. I loved telling my Grandma how he used her ring – she was so happy.

I get my “real” ring in one week!

I had .. three? four.

  1. Fiance said “oh let’s talk wedding planning”.  I said “nope, not without a ring”.  We went to the science museum gift shop and got me a stand-in, and being a jerk I said no.  (Followed up with but of course, you know I’m a jerk) (Nov 2010)
  2. Fiance and I bought the real ring.  He gave it to me then.  I said there should be some … todo to go with it, which leads to  (Dec 2010)
  3. Christmas dinner.  My scheme was that we could have his extended family involved, and someone would pick up our dinner tab as a congratulations.  We were all in on this.  He goes to make a speech, and his cousin yells “IS HE GOING TO PROPOSE?!” Fiance presented the ring upside down, and later told me his grandma was upset because she felt like it took attention away from ??? maybe her husband having been gone 3 years?  No one picked up our tab, but the restaurant gave us a nice cookie platter after we’d already eaten everything.  (Christmas Eve 2010)
  4. Weight loss and wear and tear have my ring safe in the jewelry box.  I asked for an inexpensive stand-in, and we decided I needed a formal presentation.  (three weeks ago)

We have yet to get married.

We were on a camping trip, staying in a gorgeous cabin along the Pacific Crest Trail with a bunch of fi’s friends just feeding hikers and hanging out for a week. This was my first time visiting this cabin, and it’s where they have this annual trip that they all really look forward to, so it felt like a pretty big deal. On our first night there, we arrived around 11:30, so we just hauled what we could carry up the half mile trail to reach this cabin and crashed in sleeping bags. The next day, we were getting ready to get the rest of our gear, and I had to pee before we made the trip. He said he was gonna wait for me by the door, and when I came out he was back at the cabin, calling me over for a group photo with all of the hikers there.

We all wandered out into the meadow around the cabin, and one of fi’s friends came out with a bottle of whiskey and little plastic shot cups, which he filled and passed around. He said he wanted to propose a toast, “Toooo… I don’t know, Fi and PBubs.” I kinda laughed and shrugged, and tossed my shot back, and when I turned to him to laugh about it, he was on his knee. I was so surprised and excited that I asked “Are you serious?!” as he produced my ring’s box with a Qalo tucked into it. He nervously stumbled through a little speech about  how much he loves me and wants to spend the rest of our lives together, and I was so excited that I blurted out “YES!” before he actually asked “Will you marry me?” So he put the ring on and kissed me and his friend (who was wearing a unicorn head and shorts and nothing else) yelled “ASK HER, F*CKO!!!” and then fi was like “So will you marry the sh!t out of me?”  I laughed and said yes again, and everyone in the group produced little confetti party poppers and showered us with little ribbons and sparkles. Then we spent about 5 mins picking up those ribbons and sparkles because we try to leave no trace. It was pretty surreal, and absolutely perfect, I think. We’re getting married next year at that same cabin.

my Fiance and i had been talking about getting engaged for about 6 months, and we’d been to look at rings together.. i knew he’d bought a ring and knew he’d talked to my mom, but i wasn’t expecting anything super soon.

we were visiting his family near ocean city, md, and went with his sister to check out the boardwalk. there is an old-timey photobooth (i LOVE photobooths, and this one is legit) that i drag Fiance into every time we go there, and we went to go find it. we start taking the pictures and i notice something in FI’s hand out of the corner of my eye. i look over and he has a ring box open and asks me to marry him!! i said yes (duh, since i’m here on a wedding site) and kissing and smiling and excitement ensued. while we were waiting for the pictures to develop, he told me he hadnt taken the tag off the ring because he wanted to make sure i liked it..

after a few minutes, we went to find his sister-who had been eating her ice cream on the boardwalk.. we showed her the picture and she goes “why do you have your phone out???” before realizing what it really was. more excitement and squealing ensued!

the pictures are goofy and you can totally tell that he is nervous in picture before (he says its because he couldnt get the ring box out of his pocket..) but they’re awesome to have. neither of us are big on anything flashy or anything that brings a ton of attention on us, so this was perfect for us 🙂 so happy to get to marry him in may!
