We finally secured a venue for our rehersal dinner! Yay! We were originally planning to rent a room at a local gold course but, when I went to do so they told me they were no longer hosting events. Poo. I ended up contacting my childhood church and even though I havent been in years I am still a member per their books and have privilages to their fellowship hall. Yeah! It was only a $75 janitorial fee to use the room for 4 hours. Perfect.
Now on to the fun part, our plans for the rehearsal dinner is to have a casual family BBQ! Our wedding is a formal evening event catered by a favorite local itallian restruant so we wanted the R-dinner to be as laid back and easy as possible. We’re doing a pot-luck family BBQ. My dad is smoking ribs, pork (pulled pork) and grilling up some hot dogs and burgers. Friends and relatives have offered to bring sides and desserts and we’ll keep it simple with iced tea/lemonade/water dispensers. For decorations we’re pulling tons of cute ideas from pinterest: mason jars, burlap and classic gingham.
Tell me what you’re doing!

We’ll be going to an Irish pub just a few blocks away from our church. A majority of our guests are traveling in from out-of-state and we are debating where to draw the lines on hosting them … I think what we’ll ultimately do is keep the dinner itself pretty small, just the wedding party and a few close friends/family, but then get a couple of trays of appetizers and invite the whole crew to come down and socialize a bit later in the evening. I’m excited – the place has really great food, and it’s in a fabulous location with an amazing view!

I think we will be going to our favorite local restaurant. They have a function room that we used for our engagement party, and the food is fantastic. We have a large group (big families and a huge wedding party). Looking forward to it!
@mkitts We are doing BBQ at the wedding…it’s a great idea for your rehearsal!

@Mkitts: We are also hoping to do a laid-back family BBQ, and it will be at my parents’ house. We are inviting any out-of-town guests to join us. We haven’t decided to make it a potluck or not, but that’s a good idea!!

@KCKnd2: That sounds like a great idea.
@Mkitts: That sounds a bit like what we did…. but we had it at our house. Most of our guests were Out of Town and this would be the only chance they’d have to see our house. My Mother-In-Law had it catered by Sonny’s and it was a GREAT time. His famiy got to meet mine, my family got to catch up with each other… so much fun. I had those bubble tubes from the dollar store, those crayola pads and markers that the markers don’t show up on anything but that kind of paper for the kids. It was relaxing!!
Our place was booked the night before our wedding, so we did the rehersal in our driveway. Only two out of three of our FG’s hadn’t been in a wedding, so it wasn’t a problem. In fact one of the groomsmen said it was the most laid back, quickest rehersal ever.

@Mkitts: that was the oppisite of our wedding/ rehersal dinner!
For our Rehersal we had italian food, stuffed shells, lasagna ect…. it was great! and our wedding meal was southern wedding BBQ! which was so awesome! Both rehersal and wedding were at the same venue, outdoor historic bed and breakfast, it was amaizng!
My mom also put together an amazing slideshow of me and my husband growing up and getting together, we had that playing at both the rehersal dinner and the wedding! It was fun and perfect 🙂

We are actually holding the rehearsal and dinner in our backyard. Our ceremony venue is an open air chapel on top of a mountain and it doesn’t logistically make sense to have the rehearsal there because there are no locations close by for the dinner.
My company has a bunch of 60in rounds and chairs so we’re borrowing those and getting bbq catered from our favorite local bbq place. We’re also picking up sandwich platters and large sides from Costco and Publix.
After the rehearsal we’re having a welcome party (also in our backyard) for any out of town guets that want to come.
If it rains, we’re having the rehearsal/dinner at my office (we have a large even atrium) and then the welcome party back at our house.
