Tell me about your experience taking dance lessons for your wedding!
Fiance and I have a “trial” lesson scheduled for next weekend – I’m excited, nervous, and…all of it! I am basically the opposite of coordinated – I used to figure skate until a knee injury sidelined me, and I was a cheerleader in HS, but I’ve never taken dance lessons. Fiance DEFINITELY hasn’t, but he’s generally a creative and coordinated person, and he’s always had a knack for rhythm and beats so I’m sure he’ll be better than me.
not planning on a youtube-worthy dance – just a step above the Jr. High sway.
So – did you take dance lessons? Was it fun? Terrible? Worth it?

My Fiance and I have been taking dance lessons long before our engagement. He had never danced before. I took dance as a kid, and then started swing dancing when I was in college.
It is probably one of the best together things that we do. Its just the two of us, we can pick it up at weddings, or find somewhere that has dancing on the weekends to go out to. Also, it can be a great work out.
I know a lot of people get lessons for their wedding, but I think the most fun is going to group classes where you learn a lot of steps to a lot of different dances. You can then go out dancing on the weekends and have a thing that the two of you can do together for a long time. Private lessons just for your wedding will likely just teach you coreagrphy to your song that you will use once and then never do again.

@Misswhowedding: Yeah we’ve definitely talked about some group lessons once we get ourselves generally straightened out. Right now I’m not even sure where to put my hands, ha! I’m actually surprised over how in to this Fiance is – I thought I’d have to drag him kicking and screaming into dance lessons but to my surprise, he keeps asking ME when we get to go…and I’m the one dragging my feet!
You just reminded me, though – I was part of the swing dancing club in HS and we preformed at a few retirement homes and veterns day things – so maybe I won’t be so terrible after all!

We signed up for dance lessons and we LOVE them! It’s a great excuse for a mid week date night, and for that hour, we’re not thinking about work, the house, stuff we need to catch up on or anything. It’s a great break mentally, and it’s good exercise. Oddly enough, it’s helped us communicate better – ballroom dancing is all about leading and following, and paying attention to non verbal cues. So we really started picking up on body language and other physical cues.

@StL.Ashley: We had a great instructor. He took two people with very little dance experience, helped us work out and practice a routine for our first dance. I was so much more confident at the end of the six lessons.
