Hi, weddingbees. I have one question. Do you guys wash your hands with your engagement ring?
I got engaged recently, and I adjusted my ring size. The jewerler said I should adjust it really tight, so I did that. However, it is very hard to take off.. I usually don’t wash my hands with my ring because I am worried about soap residue left on my ring..
I also almost lost my ring a couple times because I always take off and put it back a lot… I don’t really know what to do.
I just want to keep my ring really nice, but I don’t really know what the right way is..

kanchan3 : I keep mine on. As long as you give it a good rinse through, it will be fine 🙂
I would rather keep mine on and have to clean it than risk losing it by leaving it on the side or it falling down the plughole!
I do keep mine on for most things though – I only really take it off if I’m cleaning with chemicals or handling raw meat.

I always keep mine on, I’m a vet nurse and touch animals all day, if I’m touching it so does my ring, so it all needs to be washed.
The only thing I take it off for is to wash my hair because my hairs get stuck in some of the claws!
Im worried to put it near the sink and drop it down the drain! Rinse it well and make sure you dry it underneath or you can get skin infections.

I wear my rings 24/7. Work, bathing, housework, dogs, horses. I only take them off to clean them.

I only take my ring(s) off to apply hand lotion, and then only if I’m at home and can put them in a safe spot.
What type of stone is in your ring? People may answer differently re: an emerald or pearl than they would a diamond.

kanchan3 : I would consider getting them resized again. We tend to bloat by the end of the day, during our periods, and sometime when we eat a lot. You don’t want ot have to gety our ring cut off. It should slip on rather easy but still be snug.
And yes I do wash my hands with soap. Soap residue is fine you can clean it off during regular cleanings. I like the way it shines right after. Taking your ring off is dangerous though, the chances of the ring going down the drain is quite high if you do it often enough. (Which is why I NEVER take jewelry off anywhere there’s a drain).

I Keep it on when washing hands. It doesn’t seem hygienic to take it off with dirty hands then put it back on? Just give it a clean and polish once a week to get rid of any build up.

Put it this way… would you rather have a little soap scum on your ring that you can easily wash off in the safety of your own home or lose your ring all together cause you took it off in public bathroom and then got distracted and forgot to put it back on….

I do not. Proper hand-washing requires removal of all hand and arm jewellery.
I do think wear my ring to work for this reason as my job requires a lot of hand-washing.

It depends… if I’m at home, I’ll take it off. If I’m at work, I leave it on because I don’t want to forget about it.

kanchan3 : NEVER take your ring off outside your house. So yes when you wash your hands at work/school/in public whatever, keep it safely on your finger. Also your ring should not be hard to take off. It should take 3 seconds of wiggling to be precise, but not painful or “hard”.

I always keep mine on to wash my hands. The ONLY time that I take it off it automatically goes back into its box. I never wear it showering or doing things around the house though. I also don’t sleep with it since that can wear down the prongs over time. My jeweler always says that it’s in such great shape despite the fact that I’ve definitely banged my hand around with it on a lot, so I guess taking it off while I’m home is helping. 🙂 I was pretty much freaked out to wash my hands when I first got engaged, but then I got over that after a while. I just clean my ring with a cleaner once a week or so. Also, if you’re having issues with the sizing, I would consider having sizing beads. I LOVE mine. It gives my finger room to bloat without making it too tight but it grips my finger when my hands are cold. It takes a bit to get used to, but worth it.

kanchan3 : I always keep it on no matter what. I don’t want to take the chance of losing it outside of the house.

I always leave mine on. I only take mine off to put into its ring box if I’m at home and needing to do household chores or showering/washing my hair. My rings have a very simple design so they’re easy and comfy to wear too.

If you don’t wash your hands, all of the dirt, grime, germs/bacteria that builds up on your hands throughout the day will also be on your ring. I’d be far more worried about that stuff than a little soap residue. I have a very snug engagement ring also and I only take it off when I wash my hair twice a week. Afterward I soak it in an ammonia solution and clean it really well. Every other day I give my ring a quick scrub with Dawn dish soap while it’s on my finger. I never feel that there’s excessive buildup on my ring from soap or anything else.
