Yea I too afraid of losing my ring. It stays on all day. The only time it comes off is when I take a shower or I’m cooking and handling meat, etc. I always place it back in the box it came in which I travel with or my ring dish at home. So I know where it is at all times.

I lost a very nice ring of mine (not my engagement ring) when I took it off to wash my hands at a restaurant. I never want to lose my engagement ring like that so I had the jeweler make it too tight on me as well. I think it’s better to keep the ring on and not risk losing it and just get it cleaned when needed. Most jewelers will clean their work for free.

I always wear them. I dont want to lose them. Also, the way I see it, if I don’t wash my hands with my ring on, the germs stay on my ring and as soon as I put them back on my finger, my hands are no longer clean.

Never ever ever take them off in public to wash your hands- that is the easiest way to lose them! Its much better to just clean your rings later. I wash my hands with m rings on and just periodically clean my rings as well.

I would rather have a bit of soap residue than lose my ring from all the removing.

Well, seeing that I lost my ring right after Christmas (I had taken it off to sleep), I leave it on to wash my hands now.

kanchan3 :  It’s so funny that you mentioned this today because earlier I noticed one of my coworkers leaving the restroom and her engagement ring was still sitting right next to the sink! I basically never take my ring off because it is my biggest fear that I’ll forget to put it back on again and lose it 🙁

kanchan3 :  it sounds like you might benefit from buying a ring holder necklace! These things rock.  It’s a safe place to put your ring so that you don’t drop it in the sink or forget to put it on! They come in lots of different shapes. I’ve seen them on Etsy for reasonable prices.

And here’s how to use them

I keep mine on to wash with soap & water. I take them off to use germ x. I’m a teacher & figure the germs get on my rings as well but germ x just can’t be good for them.

I take my rings off maybe once a month when I get a manicure, and a few times a year when I take them to get them cleaned.  That’s it.  Take a look at the many threads on here about people losing their rings and you won’t take yours off either!  If your rings aren’t sturdy enough to withstand constant wear, you need different rings.

I never take mine off when washing my hands. I only ever take it off when it’s off for the night and in it’s box, or when I’m putting on lotion, and I hold it between my lips when I do that so I don’t knock it off a counter. As long as you rinse well you shouldn’t have any issues with soap residue, or at least not any more than you would with any other part of your hand.

kanchan3 :  better to get soap on it and need to clean it more often than to lose it. No question imo. I take it off as little as possible.

I never take my ring off. Except when I clean it every couple months. Omg, if I took it off everytime I washed my hands, I would have lost it ages ago for sure. I would have dropped it, put it somewhere “safe” and forgot where, or some other absent-minded reason. No way. Maybe some anally retentive people could do it, but definitely not me.
