So I gained about 30 lbs over the last two years, taking me from a US size 4 to a 10. I’m quite curvy with big boobs, some waist definition but a bit of a tummy, and a round booty. It used to be so easy to dress myself- everything looked fine on my thin runner’s body! Now I just have no clue what styles are flattering, and what looks good my a thicker body. I have engagement photos coming up (gulp), and of course I just want to look decent in my eveyday life.
Please Help! I could really use some advice on what to look for when I’m shopping. For reference, here’s a picture I took this morning:
Thank you for helping out a fashion impaired bee!

I think anything with a ‘v’ neck would look great, and maybe a jacket or blazer that empasizes your waist.
As for the bottoms, I would go for straight leg pants and make sure they don’t go in on the thighs and then flare out. Just straight down. If you want a dress or skirt make sure the skirt flares outwards.

@MojitoMeg: I think a-line dress would look great with your body type or something with an empire waist. I have the same type of figure and the dress I ended up going with was a ballgown (of all styles, it wasn’t the wedding dress shape I originally had in mind). In regards to engagement pictures, I would go with something a-line or empire waist to thin you out overall. Your figure is fine as is and you have time to get more toned before your wedding (noticed your date isn’t until August 2014). 🙂

somthing that has a line under the bust, and then flares out a little so not too tight on the tummy.

A flowy, strappy dress with a belt right above your waist (at your skinniest part of the midsection) would look great! Pair it with some heels, and you’ll look amazing!

Thanks for the advice ladies! Maybe next time I go shopping I can actually leave with some clothes instead of just a glazed look!

By looking at the picture you posted, I’d say you’re either an Oval or Inverted Triangle Body type. To be completely sure of what your body type I advise you to use an online body shape calculator. You have to have your bust, waist and hip measurements though. I highly recommend this one I linked before because within the results you can also find lots of clothes recommendations from fashion stylists for your body type.
