The Bahamas are beautiful. I’ve been there several times, and the locals are so incredibly nice. You can go off the resort into down town no problem and the beaches/water are gorgeous.

Bonaire. It’s the best snorkeling in the Caribean. And reasonably priced. And you can get SCUBA certified if you want. The island is small and VERY eco conscious (The entire beach and water around the island is a national preserve). It’s close to Aruba but much more low key and less developed. There are only a few really good beaches (mostly around Lac Bay – some of the best wind surfing in the world!) but there are snorkel sites all around the island. It’s a bit off the beaten track so it’s less crowded but still has plenty of great hotels, apartments to rent, restaurants, even a casino. It’s mostly frequented by divers, snorkelers and windsurfers. There’s not a ton of wild party dancing night life, but lots of airy patio dining with good food and wine and live music. If you want any more info, just PM me!

We’re going to Punta Cana in Dominican Republic. Beaches look GORGEOUS, crystal blue water, and a little adventure (we’re going zipling and snorkeling)

@Alip22:  Did you look into Maroma Beach at all? It’s been rated one of the top 10 beaches in the world many times. And the resort we are going to Secrets Maroma Beach was rated one of the top 13 most romantic resorts in the world last year… I think anywhere in the Carribean (Maroma Beach is technically the carribean sea not the gulf) is risky anytime lol! I mean their hurrican season is 6 months out of the year lol!!

We know a LOT of people who love cruising. Soo much going on and almost all AI. We don’t care for the idea for our honeymoon. I don’t want to spend most of my time on a ship. Yea you can see multiple places, but if you can only see them for a few hours-that doesn’t really impress me too much.

St. Lucia is a good choice. The water is blue, not the turquoise that many other areas are. It’s lush, tropical, and offers quite a bit of adventure. If you are looking for something different, take a look at Ladrea.  The Sandals Resorts there are also very nice. When you stay at one of them, you have access to all 3. Since the duration of your trip is over 7 days, you could stay in the southern part of the island for half of the time, then head north to the the are where the nicest beaches are. If you do consider the Bahamas, you could split your honeymoon between Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau and Sandals Emerald Bay in Great Exuma.  Both resorts are beautiful!  Exuma, lush, green, amazing foliage and beach. Royal Bahamian, lots of activity at the resort, nice beach, more night life. Unfortunately, October in the Caribbean and Bahamas is always questionable due to hurricane activity.  Regardless of where you go, be sure to purchase trip insurance.

Ooh, did you check out Tortola? We stayed at the Palm Grove Villa in June last year for maybe like, $1200 for a week. The mountains are gorgeous, it’s just up a hill from Long Bay, and if you rent a car (you need to rent a car!), you can head over to Smuggler’s Cove where you can get the best banana daiquiri EVER. And you can take the ferry to Virgin Gorda and go snorkelling in the Baths!

We also found a random sailboat captain who took us to Jost Van Dyke for the day on a private sailing trip for, I think maybe $200-250? He even stopped so we could snorkel..and he brought stuff to make us rum punch!

It was my favorite vacation ever!

@Alip22:  you’re fine with mexico. If im not mistaken, all of the drug wars are more inland and not on the coast. Besides the resorts are safe. I know at least 3 people who went to mexico in the last 2 months.

I would go to Aruba. It’s out of the hurricane belt and is one of the best islands I have ever been to. We went to baby beach three different days because the snorkeling was great! good luck!

Cozumel!!  We went there for our honeymoon and it was fabulous.  It has the 2nd best SCUBA diving in the world, so I dare say their snorkeling is way up there.  We actually did both.  It wasn’t expensive.  We spent a total of about $3000 for 8 days (that included airfare too).  We stayed at an all inclusive, rented a Jeep, had a few days of excursions and 3 days of diving.  It was perfect.

@BoiledPNut:  Cozumel isn’t considered the second best SCUBA diving spot in the world (at least, not on any list I’ve seen). I’ve dove Cozumel and it’s alright, even kinda nice to drift dive on the current and be lazy (I like being lazy..), but I have dove much nicer places. Besides, what about all of the places in the Indian Ocean, or the Caribbean, the Red Sea, the Maldives, the Great Barrier Reef? Those have got to rank higher than Cozumel. I even liked the Keys better…although I prefer shallower dives, and if you dive in Cozumel and want to see whatever it was you just drifted past, you’re sucking a ton of air trying to kick back to it.

I will say though, if you’re considering Cozumel, rent a scooter or Jeep or something and head over to the other side of the island, and check out Coconuts Bar & Grill. It’s on a cliff overlooking the ocean and it’s super pretty! 🙂
