Since no one has thrown in a dessert place, there’s a famous place in SD that is very, very good.  There are 2 locations now, one in downtown near the gaslamp and the other (original and more cute than modern like the downtown location) is very close to the Zoo/Balboa Park.  It’s called Extraordinary Desserts….and they truly are (although maybe not great if you are training, haha).

You can work off the calories walking/running/hiking at Torrey Pines if you are near La Jolla and are looking for something a little more nature-y.  It’s a beautiful state park with pines on bluffs running down to the beach.

And just timing-wise, plan a day for the zoo.  It is really great, but there is a lot of other stuff to do at Balboa Park if you like museums.  The area basically covers any interest from photography to modern art to a fabulous japanese garden. So be sure to check what time stuff closes if you try to pack it in with zoo.  Otherwise, I’d say give yourself another day to wander leisurely between the museums.

I live in San Diego and I’m a foodie, so here are a couple of yummy places I would suggest checking out…

– Cucina Urbana (North Park) – yummy new Italian style food, fun ambiance

– Starlite (Mission Hills) – delicious cocktails

– Shakespeare’s (Mission Hills) – fun English pub with lots of beers on tap and good food

– Blind Lady Ale House – great beer and food

– Blue Water Grill – amazing seafood

– Cafe Chloe – romantic, delicious French cuisine

– Point Loma Seafood – great place for lunch, if you like seafood of course πŸ™‚

– Hodad’s (ocean Beach) – yummy burgers

@shavri!  I went to college in San Diego and still remember how delicious Extraordinary Desserts is!  Go to the one in Hillcrest (on 5th Street) – the area is so much fun!

hello! this is my first post on a the wedding bee board. born and raised in san diego (and still here), i feel obligated to post. i’d recommend the following:

restaurants:

oceanaire (http://www.theoceanaire.com) – really good seafood restaurant in the gaslamp area. it’s in the higher end of price range, but worth it! when you call to make a reservation, tell them you’re there for your honeymoon and they may make you a specialized menu and give you a baked alaska for dessert (make sure you leave space b/c it’s huge!). also they have a really cute bathroom.

cucina urbana (http://www.cucinaurbana.com/about-2) – california/italian style food and wine shop in bankers hill near downtown. try the bread pudding if offered and make reservations! unless you get there right when it opens for dinner, it gets pretty busy.

bars & nightlife – bar hop in north park or downtown and stop by these places:

true north (http://www.truenorthtavern.com) – tavern in north park. haven’t been in a while (don’t really go out much anymore), but it was poppin’.

analog bar (http://analogbar.com) – bar in downtown. it’s divided into two rooms where one room has a dance floor. depending when you go, there can be a cover.

tourist spots: balboa park for museums, coronado island for the beach, and old town for mexican food.

last but not least, a true MUST: go to a hole-in-the-wall taco shop and order carne asada fries. i know you’re trying to stay fit, but you can share it with your hubby. and possibly 3 other people.

have fun!! Cool

mwitter80:, I love Balboa park and the zoo. Sea World is fun too. Besides what everyone else said. I suggest doing some fun activities like, sailing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, or biking along the beach. http://www.sandiego.org/article_set/Visitors/27 – this site will tell you where you can do these things or rent the bikes, wave runners, kayaks…

You’re going to have so much fun!
