- Wedding: April 2013
I just re-read our engagement story that I wrote out on our wedding website and got butterflies in my stomach all over again! How did your love ask you to be his?!
At the time, I was working as the Benefits Administrator and Wellness Coordinator for a large company here in Knoxville. It was just a regular Thursday afternoon, when I got a call from the front desk that there was a delivery for me. Since I worked a lot with local vendors for our wellness activities, I just assumed it was something from one of them. But when I got to the front desk the receptionist handed me this flower and the card with it read, “I love you today!” which is a little thing we say to each other pretty much every day!
I bounced back to my desk and was showing off my sweet little flower to my coworkers and bragging about what a sweet boyfriend I had, when my phone rang again. It was the receptionist telling me that I had another delivery. I was a bit confused, but I walked back up to the front of the building and waiting for me was another flower with a card that read, “…and the next day…”Again, I went back to my desk while all the ladies “oohed and ahhed” over my flowers. And yet again, my phone rang. Guess who it was?! You got it…the receptionist! Another flower with another card, “…and the next day…”
So back and forth and back and forth and back and forth I went! Each time a different set of flowers (I won’t flood you girls with the pictures, but they were beautiful!). Each time a card that read, “…and the next day…” By delivery number six, I was getting a bit suspicious! Eventually the trips came to an end and I received a final arrangement of flowers with a big card, which on the outside said, “Life is Perfect” and on the inside it said, “with you by my side!” Then he had handwritten a note that said, “…and Forever! There’s one more surprise in your car.”
So I sprinted to my desk and grabbed my keys and took off for the parking lot! As I was walking out, I could see him crouched down beside my car. I ran over to find him down on one knee with a box in his hand. I instantly began to laugh and cry as he slipped the ring onto my finger.
From there we took off for my parents’ house to show off all of my beautiful flowers, some of which FI had hand picked from his yard, and to flaunt my gorgeous ring! Then he took me to Ruth’s Chris for a fabulous dinner on the Tennessee River and after dinner we walked hand in hand alongside the river where we found a set of porch swings facing the water. We sat down and rocked back and forth in the swings exclaiming over and over, “We’re Engaged! We’re Getting Married!” It was one of the most wonderful days of our lives! I think I’ll keep this one! 🙂
ETA: I forgot to mention that he actually went into the florist and helped arrange the flowers that were delivered 🙂 Presh!
