i would never be able to not tell my parents. i will be wayy too excited and i know they’re going to be super excited.
We didn’t have a ring at first, so we bought a small cake and had “we’re getting married” written on it and took it over to my parents. My mom started crying and my dad couldn’t stop smiling.. then he told Fiance “well… it’s about time!” π
Fiance & I got engaged while on a trip to Canada (we live in the US). We called both sets of parents the next morning, and got similar responses from both.
Us: We’re getting married!
FI’s parents: In CANADA?!
Us: We’re getting married!
My parents: When? There?!
Then we switched to telling people that we were ENGAGED. hehe!
My mom had a thought that he would do it on our V-Day weekend trip and she was right. I called her on our way to confirm it – she was very happy.
Everyone else found out on facebook or they just saw the ring on my hand.
we got engaged on christmas eve at his mom’s house before his extended family was coming over. my mom was invited for christmas eve dinner with his family because this was the first christmas since my parent’s divorce and she doesn’t have a lot of family in the area. we decided to wait until my mom got to the house so we could tell her in person, but she ended up getting lost and the rest of his family all arrived and found out before her! my dad was out of town with my brother and my extended family so i skyped all of them to tell them and show them the ring! π
My fiance talked to both of my parents and told them he was going to propose a couple of weeks before the proposal. This was the first time my mom has ever had to keep a big secret from me & it about killed her π & also all of his family & my family were on a beach vacation when he proposed so they saw the whole thing happen from a distance.. which was good cause they were able to take pictures of the proposal π
fi asked my dad. mom was there with root beer and doughnuts to cut the ice, lol
We’re in Cali and my parents are in Ohio, so I sent them flowers to announce the good news! He had called earlier in the week to ask for their blessing, so they we’re just waiting π
The moral to these stories seems to be don’t say “We’re getting married!” because they’ll leap to the wrong conclusion. Too funny.
He called my father the day before to ask him, so he knew a little bit before it happened. About 15 minutes after he proposed, we called our parents… I would have told them in person, but I live in NYC and they live in Wisconsin.
My parents knew it was going to happen as he asked for their permission. As soon as it happened they were the first people I called π
@kay01: Fiance asked my parents permission but he did it 3 full months before he actually proposed so they really had no idea when it was actually going to happen. He proposed the day before my birthday and when my parents came up to visit me for my birthday, I just walked in with my hand in my pocket and whipped it out when saying hello. His family lives further away and we don’t see them as often, so he just called to tell them.
My Fiance asked my dad before hand and my mom had helped him pick out rings so they knew it was coming just didn’t know when. As soon as I saw my mom though I just burst it out and held my hand out for her to see. With his parents I was a little more subtle about it and he acutally made the “announcement” to them.
