tiffanybruiser :  yah exactly.  Pretty sure getting up and vertical and moving gets your blood pumping which increases your temp, so it’ll show up no matter which way you’re temping.  Best to take it before getting up, unless you can go back to sleep for hours.

KittyYogi :  yeah you’re right, I’m not sure where I got that from.  I feel like I read it somewhere but it’s been awhile.  Or I could be just speaking from experience, my charts were cleaner with vaginal temps vs. oral temps.  I always got up 1-2x a night (usually between 2-5am) so I never had magical 4hr+ windows of sleep.  I had some that you may not have been able to see O without my OPKs and cramping.  So mine seemed to be clearer and more stable.  Sometimes I temped after 3 hours of sleep, sometimes 1 hr.  More important for me to take it at the same time as long as I’d been sleeping at least an hour.  I might have just inferred it, when oral temps are rocky and you are following correct methods to take the temp, it’s always recommended to take them vaginally to see if you get clearer patterns.  So it must be more stable somehow?

sassybeee :  hard to tell, do you always have 55 day cycles?  If you do, you probably O closer to CD 41-44 ish, somewhere in there. so you may not have O’d yet.  CD 24 or CD27 could also be possibilities.  You should start recording other things like cervical fluid or OPKs or cervical position if you want, they will help FF pinpoint O better and would help to determine more along with temps.

tiffanybruiser :  see that’s what I thought too but my cycles are normally much longer! I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I have a bunch of cheapo HPT’s at home so I guess it wouldn’t hurt to try! Thanks for your input πŸ™‚

kes18 :  I find it so tough to record CM, it all looks the same to me! Lol! But I guess it wouldnt hurt to buy some cheap OPKs just to figure everything out. Thanks!

kes18 :  I wake up in the middle of the night pretty often too because I have to pee – so annoying. I’ve found if I wake up at 2 or 3am it’s okay, but if I wake up at like 5 or later (I usually temp at 6:30), that will throw it. If I have to get up at 5 to pee, I just temp before I get up and use the BBT adjuster.

tiffanybruiser :  since I woke up at a different time each day (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) using an adjuster made everything more confusing lol.  So I just started doing it at 6:45 ish every morning that kept it there as long as I’d been in bed at least an hour (and had 6 hours of sleep overall) and it looked clearer than using the adjuster.  Everyone is different though, so I know some people like the adjusters.

kes18 :  Yeah you gotta figure out your own body and what works for you! I think the adjuster is best when you’re waking up within 90 min of your usual temping time, which I am 99% of the time. Any wider variation than that and I wouldn’t trust it.

Hey again guys, I don’t mean to hijack this thread or anything but I feel like an update is in order and I’d like your thoughts, since you seem to have a better knowledge about temping that I do.

Turns out I had a 30 day cycle this month. I was having some terrible cramping yesterday and a backache, and I kept telling myself that it’s too early (I have PCOS and had  a 40+ cycle last month) but sure enough Aunt Flo showed her witchy ways a couple hours ago.

I temped (vaginally) this morning and I had the same low as yesterday (under my coverline). I’m now starting to wonder if I Od around CD 16 (missing data) or CD 20. I’m leaning more towards CD 20 because it’s my lowest temp. So this means that I might have a 10 day LP. Is this way too short? I’ve read something on here regarding using B16 and Vitex to increase LP. Has anyone tried this and does this work?

I’m so excited to temp my next cycle and first complete cycle!

greywacke :  I think a lot of women with PCOS have varying cycles so it’s not surprsing you’d have a 40 day one and then a 30 day one.  It’s really hard to say, there is no temp shift on CD20.  Being the lowest temp doesn’t mean that is when O was.  Did you have any cervical fluid you can remember? It would be helpful this month to mark the cervical fluid and what type.  Normally, you would O the last day you have watery or egg white cervical fluid.

10 day LP is borderline, I think 9 and under is considered luteal phase defect.  If you’ve already been having problems conceiving, I think a 10 day LP could be an issue you would want to bring to the doctors attention and it could maybe be a symptom of a problem.  But I don’t think a 10 day LP in and of itself is an issue otherwise.  I charted in between my 2 babies and my luteal phase was always 9-10 days.  It was actually only 7 days until I quit pumping at 1 year and then it went up to 9-10 days (as I continued to BF 2x a day until I got pregnant again so it could have been a contributing factor to my LP).  I got pregnant easily with my second (and with my first).  Definitely something to keep an eye on though or mention to a doctor if you’re already struggling to conceive.  But a short(er) LP in and of itself was not an issue for me and I know there were many others on here who conceived with shorter LPs.  I do think a short luteal phase is linked to unexplained infertility so definitely bring it up to your doctor if you get there.  Definitely get a full month of temps before you work yourself up too much with anxiety smile  Since the luteal phase usually doesn’t vary by more than a day from cycle to cycle.

greywacke :  Sorry about AF! I really can’t tell whether you O’d on CD20 or one of the days before you started temping. I slightly favor the theory that you ovulated earlier, like on CD16-17, but it’s just impossible to say with all that early data missing and knowing you switched from oral to vaginal temping toward the end there. I will be interested to see what your chart does next month when you temp the whole way through using the same method!

So, if you do have a 10-day LP, that’s on the short side but it’s not crazy short. It’s definitely possible to get pregnant with a 10-day LP, although it’s also possible a 10-day LP could make it a bit harder. But yeah if it turns out yours is 10 days I would look into some supplements to try to lengthen it a bit. I think a lot of ladies around here have had success with B6, but I would ask your doctor about it. However it is entirely possible you ovulated before you started temping, puting your LP at a minimum of 13 days, which would be great! So I’d just wait and see what happens next cycle before messing around with B6 or anything else.

Thanks you guys are great! πŸ˜€

I agree, I should wait for a whole cycle before trying something new.

I’ll start keeping an eye out for CF next cycle. My biggest indication of AF impending in a week is sore breasts. Happened at exactly CD25 this cycle. I go up a whole cup size and Fiance loves it. I’m seriously like this chick mid cycle. It’s like I have ESPN or something πŸ˜‰

Thanks for all the advice πŸ™‚ I hope it helped someone else too.

greywacke :  lol – that made me laugh!

My CB digital has given me a solid smiley today and my temp has shifted up a tad… hoping to see something in the next few days in regards to FF crosshairs so I know for sure – fingers crossed!
