So my brother recently bought a house and was granted the tax credit of $8000. A few months ago he told me that we was giving us $2,000 as a wedding gift. I was shocked and did not expect this. So we weren’t really sure what to use the money for (rings, honeymoon, etc.) especially because we weren’t sure when we were getting it. Well about 3 weeks ago my brother told me he is not sure the tax money will come in before the wedding. So we went ahead and bought cheap, temporary wedding bands online, hoping that once he gave us the money we could get our dream rings. Now I am sad because my cheap ring came in and it’s so small/thin that I don’t like it at all. I really want my dream wedding ring and am sad that we did not budget this in because I was counting on my brother’s gift. Now we are 3 weeks from the wedding and I am not sure what to do. I don’t really want to take out a loan or get a credit card but am not totally against either idea. Please help!
Oh and as a side note, my fiance and I have paid for the entire wedding, no help from parents.

The tax credit can take months to show up so I wouldn’t wait for it. Does the jewelers have some kind of low interest payment plan?

I say just use the temp rings until you can get the nicer ones. My Fiance & I are using our promise rings or maybe even our engagement rings as our “wedding band” for the ceremmony & getting our wedding bands on our honeymoon in Mexico. Plus we don’t really have the money for a wedding band before the wedding.

Aw I know how you feel. You want the ring you GOT married with to be the dream ring you love and wear… I totally get it, I can’t afford my dream ring, either. I would definitely see if they will do a layaway thing or low interest plan like MissAsB suggested. Good luck

if all that you need is a temp ring that is pretty, look at places like amazon.com. I found tons of rings that look like the “real” ring I want, only with CZ, for around $20. I’m going to wear mine as a stand-in when I travel.
if you need rings fast, and happen to be near a Nordstrom, they have some beautiful cz bands for about $22. they could be passed as the real thing, if you don’t look too close.
if you are just looking for plain bands w/o stones that are nice and heavy looking, try sabrinasilver.com (or some of her items are offered on amazon.com)

@SoonToBeMrsJordan: Some jewelry stores have payment plans. I got my wedding ring/e-ring as a set, they were going out of style, so were marked waaaaaaaaaaaay down, but they are designer rings. They were both paid of in about a year. Also, NEVER order a ring online. You gotta try those things on first. I tried something I thought I liked online, and HATED it when I saw it in person. Hope you get it worked out dear.
