I have modified tension set sidestones. I have had no issues, but I think it’s because my ring is specially treated platinum. It really depends more on the metal than anything else.
I love my tension set ring. It is relatively new, but I have not experienced any issues. It houses a 1 carat diamond and the jeweller (who I have known for years) has never had one returned without the stone.
Like rings with prongs, you should have it checked by your jeweller annually. If you notice any play (with any type of ring), just shake it beside your ear and if you hear a rattle – take it to the jeweller for tightening. (I got this info from a jeweller!)
Some jewellers consider tension set rings more secure than prongs. If you yank off a prong while reaching into your purse you might be in trouble.
While I don’t have all the answers, I do know that the stone sparkles like mad, in part because of the openness of the setting. Like everyone else, I would hate to lose a stone, but I am reassured by my jeweller’s advice.
(The bar on the side is decorative and not used to the sides together, more tightly or securely. It is a true tension setting).
wow loving these unique settings! Gorgeous!
