I am just curious to know what my stone’s cut would be considered. It is a square, like a princess cut but has step cuts like an emerald cut and is not an asscher. I guess it is a square step cut or technically an emerald cut (although most people think rectangle, which is why I hesistate to call it that) with a 1 ratio right? I am correct that princess is more than just being square right?

Yup, I’d need to see a pic too

I tried to pick a picture where the step cuts were most obvious. It doesn’t really matter what it is called I just wondered if I should lump myself with princess cut rings or emerald cuts

i would consider that a modified asscher cut since it doesn’t have the wind mill pattern. It wouldn’t really be considered a princess since it doesn’t have all the facets in the stone. I would call it a asscher/emerald hybrid. Hopefully more posters will chime in!

I think I’d call that a square emerald stone. Very lovely!

Souzie: AussieEncore: I like that. I never considered calling it that, but it makes sense, since the only thing keeping it from truly being emerald is the squareness, but it isn’t really like a princess at all. And it is pretty straight forward. If I have to describe it most people can picture an emerald cut stone.

Sounds and looks like a square emerald to me. Princess cut stones are not step cut at all, only similarity is the square shape.
