- Wedding: April 2013
Hey just wanted to share this DIY project for my budget brides. There were made out of cardstock scraps, an LED tealight, some reindeer moss (Michaels variety pack), a salad dressing cup and an empty pickle jar. Basically trash items. My Fiance is doing his part by eating pickles and giving me the empty jars, he says it’s the wedding job he “was born to do.” lol
First you need a template (I made mine in photoshop) for the house, then trace and cut
Then fold the house into shape
Cut in shapes for windows and doors, leave part of the shape attached if you want attached shutters. Be sure to cut an X on the bottom panel of the house so that the LED tealight flame can fit through.
Now you can tape or glue your house together, adding a small folded piece of cardstock for the roof. You can also leave your windows open, or minic panes by using vellum or cellophane tape.
Then place inside your empty pickle jar (or whatever jar) and add moss, twigs, or anything else. I covered my tealights using a strip of cardstock that has been punched out at the top. I folded it into a square and used double sided tape to keep it on. I then placed these on top of the salad dressing cups, which are hot glued to the lid, for extra height. Here is what they look like finished.
The clips are made with toothpicks, old buttons, and an alligator clip. They are held on with double sided tape.
