@HelloKittyEsq: It’s never too early! Just go and have fun! Don’t feel pressured to buy anything, but try on lots of styles to see what you like.

Have a great time! And Congrats on the engagement. 🙂

I’m getting married in June of 2012 and have only been engaged for 3 weeks…and I just bought my dress! I knew it was the one I wanted and I figured why wait? This way I know I have it, there’s plent of time for alterations and/or fixes if anything is wrong, and I have plenty of time to pay it off!!! I’m still going dress shopping over the next few months…the Future Mother-In-Law wants to go, my attendants, and my aunt all want to go. I think there will be so much less pressure knowing that I already have the dress and I can just have fun playing “dress up.” (I’m not letting anyone know I already have a dress though. I don’t want to ruin the fun for them!!) But that only works because I am absolutely sure I will never find any dress I want more than the one I have…once I make up my mind, it’s made up, so if that’s not you, you might want to hold off actually purchasing until you’ve done some shopping. Still, don’t cancel your appointment! Go and have fun!!

They will probably have 2 or 3 more trunk shows before you have to make a decision, so don’t feel pressured to buy.  In addition, there will be tons of trunk shows from other vendors between now and then so you’ll have a million opportunities.

These boards have many, many posts about brides who changed their minds.  Enjoy the “looking” process for a while!

PS–the sample sizes are often very small.  If you can’t get it over your hips, that’s a problem but after that they will clamp it to your bra, etc. if it won’t zip.

I’m being measured for mine soon.  The person making it wants it done a year before my wedding date, so I have it and last minute alterations can be done just before.  But, as Georgia Bee mentioned, remember that you may change your mind.  Our date’s not until 12/21/12, and we booked our venue today!  It does seem “real” when you do something concrete… but it’s exciting!  Have fun!
