I think a size 12 is pretty average and I don’t think you will have a problem at all.

@bestwishes:Oh you have absolutely nothing to be worried about! I’ve seen alot of bridal shops who carry mainly sizes 6/8/10/12. Honestly there is nothing to be afraid of. I’m a size 22/24 :-/ and went for my first time last week, it was great!

I am a size 16 in wedding dresses and everywhere I went there were plenty of things to try on. Remember most stores have everything in a 10 and you can fit into any of those just fine you just wont be able to zipper/lace up the back the whole way but you will be about to get an idea of the fit of the dress for sure. I was nervous too and was so surprized at how much fun I had and how many dresses acctually were very flatering on! Stop worring go and have fun, its a wonderful experience!

I highly recommend calling the store itself (or multiple stores). I went to both David’s and a boutique, and the boutique carried a range of sizes. They also have clips, inserts, etc, that can help you at least get an idea of what a dress might look like. Those dresses get so abused in the try-on process that they don’t look their best anyway when you’re on the floor.. so even if it doesn’t fit right, just use the sample to get an idea of how it will look.

You’re going to look beautiful, just remember that. You’ll be finding your wedding dress!

I take online reviews with a grain of salt. Call the store and get more details. Size 12 is not what I consider plus size and I think you should still be able to try on dresses with ease. Some you may not be able to zip or lace up and others you are going to need to clip to you because they are too big!

Remember the number on the dresses doesn’t mean anything. Have fun!

I think that twelve is a pretty average size! As I think its normal to be a little nervous, but dont be.. This is supposed to be something so fun, and something that your going to make great memories of. I will tell you I am a size 16 and thought that I was going to have trouble.. But even in the smaller shops it was ok… Maybe the samples didnt fit me perfectly but they did the job of letting me know what the dress would look like on. Dont stress about this. And have fun with your mom and Future Mother-In-Law it will really be a special moment it you let it be.

if you are a size 12, you should be fine. if you don’t want to go there out of principal because of that one story, i would say ‘rock on!’.

the first dress shop i went to… well the consultant i had looked down on me and Fiance picked up on it right away. Not only did they not have the dress I wanted to try on in a size I could try… they wouldn’t even let me look at it and then wouldn’t bring any of the STYLE i wanted because they felt that it would make me look even bigger. After trying on lots of dresses that I didn’t even like, we left.

I waited months before shopping again. The next two stores I went to had tons of dresses that I could try on and they made me feel beautiful in my own body.

David’s Bridal uses the same vanity sizing that mall stores do.  If you are a size 12 at the mall, you will probably be a 12 there as well.

Higher end bridal designers do not use vanity sizing.  In general, your bridal size is two steps above your street size.  So you will probably wear a bridal size 16.  Don’t freak out about it…it is what it is.

The larger, nicer salons will often stock samples in a bridal 10 and a bridal 20, but you will have to call around to find the right stores.

Where are you located?

Don’t be worried!!  12 is not an unusual size and most shops will have tons of dresses that will fit you!!  David’s Bridal does have lots of dresses in lots of sizes but don’t feel like that’s the only place you can shop because that is certainly NOT the case.  Wedding dress shopping is supposed to be fun!  Don’t let your nerves get the best of you.. just breathe!
