Fiance and I have been talking about my starting to work on my carreer. Im thinking of getting into textiles. My backround is retail in outdoor adventure clothing and equipment, retail in textile sales, my hobbies include spinning and knitting and quilting and sewing etc. Im finding it very difficult to find information on the field of textiles and am not sure if I want to go arts or sciences etc. Does anyone know anything about this field? I am willing to move within Canada or the US to go to school.

@naturalysam: I suspect that would be more of an arts related field, but it depends on what exactly you plan on doing. How much school have you already completed?

Ive looked at one arts program and it was really just weaving things to hang on walls which is not what I want. Id love to work for companies like patagonia. I have some college but not related fields.

My school had a Polymer, Textiles, and Fiber Engineering (PTFE) degree. It is definitely something that is not offered everywhere and is definitely the science side of things (which is what you would probably need to work somewhere like Patagonia, I’d think).
I have one friend who graduated with this degree and he now works for Milliken, which is a carpet / flooring company.
ETA: A quick search tells me that Georgia Tech and Auburn both have programs. You could also probably do a more general Materials Science Engineering (MSE) program and try to focus or specialize within that.
