I constantly see people texting when they drive (or if they aren’t texting, playing around on their phones doing something other than focusing on the road). I recently read an article that said you are more likely to get in an accident from texting and driving than you are from being legally drunk and driving – it’s that distracting to our brains.
A spinoff is putting on make-up when you drive, eating, and just engaging in behaviour that altogether distracts you from what you should be doing – driving!
My question – do you do it?!

Nope, I don’t. I actually have an app called Drive Safe.ly that sends a text back to anyone who messages me while I’m driving that says I will text back when I’m not driving. It’s awesome, and free! 🙂

Nope. That’s a huge pet peeve of mine. Texting, talking, FB’ing while driving. My phone is out of reach of me when I get in my vehicle. It’s zipped up in my purse in the back seat – or it’s plugged into my radio and I’m listening to Pandora. Other than that, I’m never on my phone when driving. I have a hard enough time paying attention to begin with.
Ooooh! an app!?!?! I’m looking for that now!

I used to… I have no freaking clue why… I guess it’s just what happens when you’re young and dumb and not really thinking. Plus it wasn’t as publicized (not that that is an excuse) and my phone was way less complicated to use. But now that I’ve realized how dangerous it is, NEVER. I get so irritated when I see people doing it. Then again I get pissed when I see people on their phones and driving… uh hello it’s called get a freaking bluetooth (or if you can’t get a plug in ear piece) not that hard.

Haha, no, I don’t text and drive, but I do dictate texts through my bluetooth in my car. When I do it just with my phone in my hand (not in the car), it’s always so accurate, but sometimes in the car, it doesn’t hear as well, and they tend to come out hilarious. I texted Darling Husband the other day
“Baby called black cat bakery in the Knolians I didn’t mean it again?”
and then ‘Hey what happens when I is Siri? Cannot that you know what I say.”
I mean, I knew before I sent it that it would just be nonsense, but I thought it was super funny, so I sent it anyway. It usually takes me 2-3 dictations to get it right.

No. Very very rarely I’ll shoot a text while I’m at a red light, but only if it’s important, which is hardly ever. Like twice a year?

@BoxerLady: Nope….I get to see the photos from those accidents all day long, plus, I’m not one of those people who lives with their phone in their hand…more often than not, Mr. 99 and I will have to make sure at least one of us has one, in case of emergencies before we leave the house…that’s how relevant they are in our lives.

No. No. No! It’s just so freakin’ dangerous and it scares me to death when I see other drivers doing it (which unfortunately, is pretty frequently).
I do eat while I’m driving sometimes though.

No, I don’t. It is illegal and dumb.

I never do it, and I yell at all my friends who do it. I read the SO the Riot Act when I saw that he did it when we started dating, and now he will only do it when getting gas/is parked. He knows how I feel about it. Texting and talking on the phone while driving is one of the most selfish things you can do on the road. Is your call really that important?::Side eye::
OP – Do you by any chance have a link to that article/study that shows that you are more impaired texting/driving than drinking/driving? I want to send it to a friend who is ALWAYS on her cell phone in the car, and it drives me batty. She just got ticketed for it and blamed the cop. I told her I was on the cop’s side.

@Nona99: You must work in insurance? I wouldn’t want to see those pictures 🙁 My Fiance and I hardly use our phones, and I’m glad we aren’t the only ones! It seems people are addicted to electronic devices these days – some of my friends sleep with their phones. As soon as we get home from work, we usually turn our personal phones off (I have to leave my work phone on, unfortunately).
@Cady: Definitely is illegal and expensive. My friend got a ticket for like $150 for texting and driving :S
Post # 13
Nope, never have. I don’t trust myself to drive safely while doing it.
Not..really… ( I have no problem being honest because I’m not going to pretend to be someone I’m not. )
I used to do it a lot more. If it is absolutely necessary, I’ll do it at a red light. But once I saw that commercial with the father & his kids taking groceries out of the car, and how they get hit, I just can’t. I want to cry every time I see it.
I’ll admit that I do it. But only at red lights or when the car is stopped, never while moving.

@Nona99: haha same here. Darling Husband and i both have go phones from AT&T so it’s prepaid (or pay-as-you-go. not sure if there’s a difference). he never has his on him. i keep mine in my purse but never use it. my friends know not to bother calling me on it (we have a home phone). they’ve sent me texts that i don’t see for days because i forget to check it. i hate seeing people on their phones either talking or texting while driving. it’s illegal in CA but people do it anyways.
