I sent out my thank you cards as soon as I got presents. So any present I got before the wedding I sent the thank you cards right away. After the wedding, ettiquete says you have a year but I sent mine out about a week after we got back from our honeymoon. I didn’t want to wait and then forgot or get too busy.

I tried to keep up with the thank you cards as the gifts came in. We still had a huge pile to write after the wedding. It was pretty daunting! 🙂

@AndysCraftsNmore:  As soon as possible.

Thank you notes, should ideally be sent before you go to bed on the day you receive a gift.  Now given that it is your wedding night, guests should not expect you to spend that night doing your thank yous.

Most etiquette experts give 3 months maximum.

I know personally, the sooner I receive a thank you, the more grateful the receiver seems.

@Birdee106:  Unfortunately, you are incorrect.  Givers have a year to send a gift.  Not receivers having a year to thank guests.  Receivers have maximum of 3 months based on most traditional etiquette experts.

You do NOT have a year to send thank-you notes. I don’t know where people got this idea. Send them as soon as you receive the gifts, even if they come before the wedding. For the ones you get at the wedding, do it ASAP. If you’re going on your honeymoon right after the wedding, do it the week you get home. You can even make it fun- my husband and I went to a bar, sat down with some beers, and banged out 20 thank-yous together.

If you take 3 months to do it, people will think you’re a jerk.

It took me a little under two months to get mine out… I felt pretty bad, but I was dreading them and kept putting it off!

I got married Saturday the 27th and sent mine out in the mail the day before yesterday on the 3rd.  So 6 days for me.  I was a bit excited, though, I love sending mail XD
