Today my fiance and I received a generous gift card from my co-workers. They had all chipped in on the gift-card and presented it to us at lunch today. What is the appropriate way to handle thanking them for this gift? Do we write individual thank you cards to all 15 of them? Send a nice e-mail to the whole group? Something else?

I think I’d write each one a thank you note.

I would also suggest writing a thank you card to each one of them.

I would write a card to each of them. It’s only 15 people, so it’s really not that many thank yous to write.

When my co-workers threw me a bridal shower last month, and we received a generous monitary amount, I thanked them all collectively with one card.
When you work with so many people, and you don’t know who donated what exactly, it’s hard to single everyone out..
Now, when you get married, while opening your gifts, be sure to write down each gift and who it came from at that exact time, so you won’t forget. Then you can send individual thank you cards for those gifts.
Hope this helps 🙂
By The Way – I see you are almost there! Yay!

While it is nice to write each one a card, I think most groups, coworkers included, expect one card written to all.
What I did was have a really cute card & baked a bunch of homemade cookies for all my husbands coworkers after they threw us a really generous shower 🙂 People love to eat at work!

Maybe you could write a card and attach it to some type of sweet that you leave in the breakroom for your coworkers?

15 people… i’d probably write individual notes.

Have you ever seen your office give a collective gift before? If so, what happened then?
In my office, the 12 people in my department and I always contribute 5-10 bucks each towards baby showers/weddings/going away gifts, etc. It’s just our office way of life, so to speak. That being said, the person receiving the gift just always tells everyone thank you, or just sends out a big email. While writing out 15 notes would be very very nice, it’s just not the norm in our office setting.

It’s a small office, and I have been here under 2 years, so i haven;t really seen this done before. I like the idea of a nice thank you card with a big plate of cookies in the break room…. I bet they’d like that, too. Thanks for your suggestions!
