I need some creative inspiration for bridesmaid/matron of honor/reader/parent gifts … Only 16 days until our wedding and I am STILL stumped!!! PLEASE HELP!!! I am very crafty so I couldl make something cool… or I could order something unique… I just don’t want to give another boring matchy quick and easy gift.

Okay, at the risk of offending other brides (but then again, I’m only one gal and this is my lonely opinion), here are the good and bad bridesmaids gifts I’ve gotten (I’ve been a Bridesmaid or Best Man 8 times. Yes, 8):
AWESOME: a flash drive (the bride and groom pre-downloaded special pics for us just as a thank you–but I love the use-value), an umbrella (which I still use), the J.Crew magic wallet (this girl was a self-confessed J.Crew-aholic and we all knew it, but that magic wallet is really fun)
KINDA BLAH: I’ve gotten 3–3!–cosmetics cases. And I already own one. One got reborn as a pencil case; the others were Goodwilled. Jewelry: okay, I love the gesture and I appreciate it, but truth be told it can be kind of tricky because it’s about taste. I keep the jewelry because it reminds me of the bride who gave it to me, but I don’t really ever wear it. And PLEASE–as my petty public service announcement–as a girl with no pierced ears, spare yourself the awkward moment of “Here–I made you earrings! Put them on!….Oh wait…Sorry…” and make sure all your maids have pierced ears!
And while I see that it’s a tradition for the maids to receive the same thing, I do think that it’s also a great idea to give them different gifts that are personal–a new pair of gloves and some heirloom seeds for the gardener; a solar iPod charger for the gizmo queen; movie tickets for the film buff…An approach that’s rarely done, but a lovely option.
