We received a Couples Bible from my boss. We are not religious, and I have no idea how to word this thank you note. And it’s my boss, someone I see 5 days a week so I can’t blow it off and write something vague. Ugghh…any ideas?

Dude, who does that? That is the most obnoxious, presumptuous gift you could possibly give someone. He’s probably the guy who hands out Chick tracts to trick or treaters on Halloween, too.
I’d just say thank you for coming. Don’t mention the “gift” at all.

How about: Thank you for your thoughtful and generous gift of the Couple’s Bible. We are grateful for your friendship and support, as we begin our life as a married couple. Thank you for being part of our lives!
Would that work?

“It was a pleasure to see you at our wedding. We enjoyed sharing our special day with you. Thank you for your thoughtful gift.”

@oracle: I like the way you said it.

I like oracle’s wording. The gift is inappropriate from a boss, but… it’s your boss. :-/

Wow, I am also not religious and once got a bible as a pollyanna gift and thought that was strange, but I think it’s stranger as a wedding gift to a non religious couple!
In addition to the good advice above, you could even go as far as to comment on it like “What an interesting and personalized gift. Thank you for thinking of us on our wedding day”
