So, we recieved our first gift in the mail yesterday… which means it’s time to start cranking out thank you notes!
My question is, for thank-you notes, can you use just any “nice” card? Or does it have to be something wedding-related? We made our own invites (message in a bottle) so we don’t really have any related stationary we can use, but I do have some 3×5 folded cards with a pretty pattern on front and blank inside (like the kind you can get from the stationary aisle in Target). Would those work for hand written thank you notes? Or do we need to find something better?

Any card is fine! It doesn’t have to tie in to the wedding.

I think more formal ‘thank you’ notes are appropriate for a wedding (like the kind that say ‘thank you’ on the front vs. a pattern). Those seem like b’day thank you’s or other even thank you’s.
I got some faux letter press thank you’s from Target for $12.99 / box of 50 and used those. Insane deal. They did not match anything to do with my wedding, but I thought they were elegant.
In retrospect, I really wished I did photo thank you cards – but, I had already bought all those thank you’s and had our return address printed on the flaps, so I used them.
But, it all ends up being personal preference. I think the point is you say ‘thank you’ and write a note – vs. a generic card that only says ‘thank you’ and you sign your name.

We got our first gift the other day and I used a regular Thank You card I had lying around, but for the majority of our gifts, I do plan on getting more formal Thank You cards. However, for the first gift when you didn’t have anything on hand, I think any type of thank you card is better than nothing, or waiting another month or two when you send out the rest!

I found the cheapest pack of thank you cards I could at Target. They said Thank You on the front and were blank inside. They were simple and did not match my invite suite at all.

I also used cheap cards from Target. Half were white with a yellow flower and thank you and half were yellow with a white flower and thank you….they were not fancy at all!

I found some great Pistachio thank you cards that had a simple “Thank You” letterpressed in fancy script with some flourishes…for $1 per package of 8 at Chapters. And they actually matched our invitation suite incredibly well.
But you can use any pretty cards, really. If you think the ones you have are appropriate, then you may as well use them!
