My basic template in my head was “Thank you, names, for the gift. We really appreciate it and plan to use it for intended use. We really enjoyed celebrating with you at the wedding. (OR We’ll miss celebrating with you at the wedding.)” Sometimes I’d add before the celebration line a line about inviting them over after we’d settled in so that they could try what we’d made with it.

When I’m writing Christmas think you notes, I try to have three different “what I’ve been up to over Christmas” details to write about so that I can use for my letters. Can you do then same thing? Maybe “what was great about the wedding”, “our lovely honeymoon” or “what we’ve got planned for the next few months”? 🙂

You are so generous, thank you ever so much for the gift.  We are planning to use it for/to _____.  We will miss you at the wedding but look forward to seeing you the next time we are home, in X city, when you return, after we get settled back at home, etc.

Or, so glad that we will see you at the wedding.  We can’t wait to see how much little Susie has grown, or thank you so much for coming to celebrate with us.

Hope those help 🙂

@californiabride2013:  Thank you so much for the __________ (check, money, gift card, etc.). It was very thoughtful of you and we will put it to good use in starting our new lives together.

We look forward to seeing you at the wedding if they are attending. We look forward to seeing you in the near future, if they aren’t attending.
