I just had my wedding shower last Saturday. It was hosted by my FI’s sisters. 98% of the people in attendance will also be at the wedding (there were maybe 2 people at the shower who were not invited to the wedding….I know, I know). What is the standard for writing thank-you’s? Do I send them now for the gifts that were given, or do I wait until after the wedding so that I can say thank you for joining us in celebrating…..Also, if people send a wedding gift in addition to the shower gift, does that mean I need to send a second thank-you—seems like I should.

Send the thank you notes now. Most people who will attend the wedding will get you asecond gift for that event. That second gift will require its own thank you note.

I agree with @penguingal06. I wrote thank you notes for my shower, and will write separate thank you notes for my wedding gifts.

Yup, write thank you notes for the shower now. Following the wedding, write additional thank you notes for any gifts you receive then.
