I had a complete stranger literally harass me once when I was at a bar. I know it’s bad to be drunk when pregnant but repeatedly saying “no I’m not pregnant, I’m just bloated from all the beer I drank tonight” didn’t get him to shut up and stop blocking my way. Then I started crying because it was embarassing that he kept asking me and also because I as really drunk and afraid I was going to throw up and he would not let me pass. He just kept standing there in my way and berating me for drinking when pregnant. It was horrible and I still get riled about it five years later.

Sorry you were also the victim of someone with so little tack, OP. Some people are just jerks.

@worldtraveler:  OMG same thing happened to me. But I was drunk and started crying. Drunk, messy, ugly crying.

I’m so sorry.

I had a very similar experience at a gym to which I belonged many years ago. I was wearing exercise pants and an oversized T-shirt and was using a piece of equipment, but it was bothering my shoulders.  A trainer was nearby, and I asked her if I was using the machine incorrectly, since it was hurting my shoulders.

She very matter of factly said, “A lot of women experience problems with their joints when they’re pregnant.”

I looked back at her and said the only thing that came to my mind at that moment. “I’m not pregnant. I’m just fat.”

That’s one of the reasons I will never, ever say anything about a woman being pregnant unless SHE says something first — not even if she looks as if she is about to give birth at that very moment.

@Pokemon:  I guess you can’t talk to customers like that but a good comeback would have been “used to be??”  Ruin her day.

Perhaps you had a mom-like shirt on and your engagement glow was mistaken for pregnant glow? You are not fat, though she was quite rude… Maybe the last statement was just blurted out because she was so ashamed of her mistake?

OOOOOOH

MIGHTY MORPHIN’ BITCH MODE ACTIVATED.

I hope you punted her.

Square in the baby maker.

Or at least told her to go shave her moustache.

She would have been checking her face all day!

I can’t believe how many people think it’s okay to just assume a woman is pregnant and strike up a conversation about it.

One of my guy friends once joked about doing this to a skinny girl just to mess with her. I just about strangled him.

A neighbor congratulated my mom on being “pregnant” (she is 5’2 and I doubt she’s ever weighed more than 120) and she was just devastated. I have never seen her self-esteem take such a hit.

OMG you look great!  My jaw dropped when I read that… people have no tact and can be so stupid. It’s never okay to assume someone is pregnant.  So awful.  Just know you look beautiful 🙂
