Oh that sucks, sorry to hear.

I probably wouldn’t say anything other than a passing “I’m sure my SO will enjoy the steak.” Passive aggressive maybe, but at least it might let a little steam off.

If it was done on purpose, that’s terrible!

I don’t know if I would say anything. Probably not, I’m a bit of a coward like that. The salad dressing sounds like a better route πŸ™‚

Would you be able to sell it, to at least get something?

I’d save it and regift it later.

I would have said: thank you.

Since she jokes to you about being vegan – I wonder if she meant it as a joke – like not a real gift, but a- haha, have fun, sucka – type gift.  I’d probably tell her – ‘your gift cracked me up!’ (if you have that type of banter).  But, since you say she is evil, my guess is you don’t really joke around with her like that….

Some people are just RANDOM – this one definitely falls into that category.  But, since you have to deal with them day in and day out – I would NOT make a point to point it out.  I probably wouldn’t have even sent a thank you card… but, that’s just me (thanks for NOTHING!) πŸ˜‰

You could sell it and get some cash out of the deal.

I would politely give it back to her and let her know that you appreciate the gesture but animal factories go against you moral/spiritual and fundamental beliefs, making it something you can’t accept or give to someone else to support.

@cora_123:  That sounds like the perfect strategy!! You get to use the gift and have the last laugh.

@cora_123:  Good idea. πŸ™‚  I was going to suggest looking to see what else they have on the menu.  Some places that advertise themselves as steak places often will have vegan options, so maybe they do as well?

@cora_123:  That sounds like a great idea!!  πŸ™‚  Desserts are always awesome.  πŸ™‚

And at least you got something.  πŸ™‚  I didn’t get anything.  πŸ™  All my friends at my last job got lunch, frozen yogurt, flowers, AND a certificate for See’s candy.  Grrrr.

I love the dessert idea. But seriously, that is SO inconsiderate!

I hate this “holiday”! Either your boss did that on purpose, or she just felt obligated to get you anything to acknowledge the event so she had someone else grab you something that wasn’t even personal…like why even bother? Aaarrrggghhhh, I’m getting personally upset right now but I hope you can find a way to enjoy your gift – a nice bottle of wine and a dessert, maybe πŸ™‚

@cora_123:  I had an admin role a couple of years ago, and when this rolled around the CEO’s wife, who I’d never met before, assaulted me at my desk with a hug and a bouquet of flowers from the grocery store. I had no idea what was going in, and when someone explained this to me I was actually pissed off. Admins do so much, and take sooooo much crap…how are flowers or an inappropriate gift card supposed to make up for any of that? How about people just treat their admins better on a daily basis…then no one will have to worry about coming up with a BS gift once a year?
