Not to sound sexist (because I’m a proud feminist!) or exclusionist (because I realize there a lot of same sex couples on the boards too!) – but a recent event has made me realize that it’s a good thing that the guy usually proposes.
A few days ago was our 1-year engagement-a-versary (yes, I like to call it that), so I decided to turn the tables and propose (well, profess my love with a gift) to my finance.
Oh man. So glad I did it, I really caught him off guard, he was touched, it was a great moment, loving words were exchanged, etc.
BUT – I could barely get through it! I was crying from moment one (and not just tearing up – I’m talking ugly face sobbing here) – and this is coming from someone who was not at all close to tears during the actual proposal, when he asked me! I was shocked! But it got me to thinking that it’s probably a good thing that (some) women don’t usually have to do a lot of the talking during proposals, haha – especially me because I am apparently I am just too much of a sap…
