@Adams_bee:  Hi there, I’m wondering what your DH did to get his count and motility to quadruple?  My DH just had his SA done and we are awaiting the results but I’m wondering what steps to take should the come back less than favourable.  That’s a great increase and I’m sorry that you didn’t get your bfp.

@MrsBananas:  thanks sweetie. I try to cope by not hoping anything will happen other than just getting my period every month…cos I know if I hope for a BFP I’ll just get disappointed. guess it works most of the time, apart from the occasional meltdown when I’m really late and I start getting weird symptoms (probably all psychological). Oh well.

DH’s count was 5 million. he got it up to 18 over 4 months. Still low, but a huge difference. Doc prescribed zinc, vitamin E, vitamin C, & something else I can’t remember right now. he took those daily, and make a few changes such as wearing loose underwear, using his laptop on a table rather than on his lap, etc.

As a result, count, motility, and survival increased.

fingers crossed DH gets good results! xxx

Hi Ladies! It has been over 6 months for me, so I’m hoping to join in.

    ROLL CALL!

    Cycles/months trying:   Cycle 8/ 12 months trying

Current CD/DPO:   CD 3 – my cycles have been normalizing lately, and this last one was 30 days long with a full 14 day luteal phase. For me that is a major improvement.

    Chart (if you have one):

Any known issues? None officially. Ok – full disclosure I was having some real issues with eating disorders until about a year ago. Deciding to finally TTC helped me recover. While I had the ED I had no periods. I am so worried that I messed up my body! Cry I’ve gained 10 lbs in the past year and while it feels uncomfortable, my cycles have finally seemed to have come back to normalcy so I’ll take that as a sign of hope.

Supplements/medications:  Prenatals and in the last cycle pre-seed.

Next steps?   I already had a preliminary consult with the RE 2 months ago. Since then DH had a sperm analysis (looked good) so I’m going back in this month for full testing.

DH had his SA today and according to my obgyn it’s “not normal”. Don’t know the numbers yet. She won’t refer me for an HSG yet, because she wants him to go see a urologist. DH is a bit upset that I found out before him from the obgyn. The RE where he had the test hasn’t called him yet. I’m scared of course. This was very unexpected, because we’ve been thinking it’s all me… DH seems to be upset, but hasn’t said much. Waiting to find out the numbers to know what is going on. I see some girls here saying that their DHs improved their sperm with treatment-hoping we can do that too…

@MrsBaldEagle:  Welcome, sorry you had to be here. I’d be assertive with your doctor- long cycles like that are not normal, especially if they are often annovulatory. Don’t be afraid to speak up and if your doctor won’t listen to you, think about getting a second opinion.

@Aqualov:  Thank you for the advice. I definately ovulated last cycle – and most likely the cycle before (OPKs only) – so if I dont ovulate again this cycle I will be getting in touch with my doctor. At this point I dont really want to take Clomid or any other drugs, so hopefully I ovulate this cycle!

@BalticBee:  I’m so sorry to hear that his results aren’t good.  I hope you get to see the Dr soon and get some answers.

I’m actually in a very similar postition right now.  We finally got the results from DH SA yesterday, and the results were pretty bad.  I knew ttc might not be easy for us (deep down gut feel) but these results confirmed it.  DH was low on sperm count, motilty & morphology.  He got the results from his doctor without an appointment (walked in because I told him to go get them for my doctor) so now we are waiting for an appointment to go over the results and find out what our next steps are.  I’m not even sure if his GP will be able to help us, or if we’ll need to be referred to a urologist or some sort of fertility treamtent centre.  I have no idea how any of this works.  …I cried all night last night and can’t seem to stop.  I know it’s not the end of the world and hopefully we can change the situation but it’s just hard being dealt this blow.   I never imagined we’d have problems with his fertility.

@MrsBananas:  Ohh no! I’m really sorry that you’re going through this 🙁

I know it’s not easy and I’m guilty of doing the same, but please try to stay positive, it will only stress you even more. When is your next doctor’s appointment?

Have you checked the 1 year + TTC boards? I have lurked those boards before, and those ladies really know their stuff and are so encouraging to each other. They may be able to provide you with some information until your next appointment.

I’m sending you lots of positive thoughts and virtual hugs. I’m really hoping your doctor will provide you with options and a plan going forward.

@Turtle83:  Thanks.  Unfortunatley I was doing some internet reading last night and I read that you can improve sperm count and motility, but not much you can do for morphology.  it seems like everywhere I read jumped right to IVF.  It’s hard to keep your head up when you read that.  But obviously I know my mind is jumping to the darkest thoughts right now and we need to talk to our doctors.  Hubs will be making an appointment for today or tomorrow.

I guess I will be moving over to the 1 year + boards.  Your right, those ladies really do know thier stuff.  Thanks again.

@MrsBananas:  From what I read online if the sperm is the issue, you can do an IUI which is way cheaper than IVF.

I have been reading a lot as well recently, because I get pregnant easily, I just can’t stay pregnant, so I think my DH’s sperm is not that issue, which would no make me a good candidate for IUI, and if the issue are my eggs, or any DNA translocation (something my ob-gyn mentioned) than my only option would be IVF.

    Wishing you the best!

@Turtle83:  Yeah, if we have to go the treatment route we will for sure look into IUI over IVF.  Lord knows we don’t have the funds for IVF.  I also recognize that we are very early in the testing/treatment route and may be lucky enough to sneak by.  …As I said my mind wanders to the worst case scenario, but I will remain hopeful.

I can’t imagine what you have gone through with not having a sticky bean yet.  I really hope this is the one for you!

@BalticBee:  Oh no! That is pretty crappy that your OB Gyn would a) just call you and b) say something scarry and non-specific like “not good”. I feel like doctors should quantify things! I hope that you get some better news, and that they can figure out. My (very limited knowledge) from the internet seems to indicate that there are definite treatment options!
