Thank you for all the welcomes!  I am still getting to know everyone and their TTC progress, but sending baby dust to all of you.

We got the results of my husband’s SA yesterday.  I am glad I have this board because my husband doesn’t want to talk about this with anyone, which I understand, but I need to talk about it.  The results were not good.  Basically the doctor said that while it is still possible for us to get pregnant naturally, it is not likely.  After doing some reading and seeing his numbers I realize it is very unlikely.  This was hard news, but I realize it isn’t the worst news we could get.  My husband is on medications for health issues that could be the culprit, so it is hard for him to go off them b/c then he is without his daily medication.  Ugh, I wish I could just make it all better for him.  They are sending us off for a consult for IUI now.  I am about to O in the next day or so, and I feel pretty bummed out with the news.  We are still going to try,  I just feel so much less optimistic knowing what we now know.  Something always told me this would be hard for us, for once I wish I had been wrong

@funnybunny:  I hope your IUI went well.  It’s looks like DH and I are headed down that path.  We have our first appointment next week.  I really don’t know what to expect.  I haven’t had any tests yet, so I am guessing that will be the first order of business.

@hamikay: I think we might have a lot in common.  My husband has terrible IBS (at least that is the name they put on it) that can put him in the hospital multiple times per year.  We think some of his meds could be attributing to his low SA results.  We are going to work with our doctors to find out.  Also, I am on the no cold beverage/food diet now for my circulation/rayauds issues.  Here’s hoping it works!  I don’t mind it so far, as I sit here waiting for my yogurt to warm up….

@Yellow.Clover: Thanks for having your FX but she showed yesterday afternoon…

@hellorebecca: I am sad (lots of ugly crying yesterday) but at least she finally showed up so that I can have my ultrasound with my RE on Monday without having AF at the same time. I was really hoping I would be PG and not need to see the RE at all but on to Cycle 11. DH is off tomorrow so we will have a nice day together and I will try not to cry about it anymore…

@MellowMood: Nice to have you here with us. I am sorry about your DH’s SA results. Hopefully the doctors can figure out if there is a way to make some adjustments to his meds to help improve this or at least help you figure out another plan. I am actually terrified of getting my DH’s SA done because I worry about how he will deal if its “his” issue, he’s such a perfectionist and wants to give me whatever I want.

@MellowMood:  It is always hard to get results that you don’t want to hear.  I’m so sorry.  My DH has low motility which is our only problem and it has been hard.  I think it’s almost harder on me since I see how hard he is taking it and I wish that I could fix it.  I think it would have been easier if the problem was me.  Try to look on the bright side of things, there are ways that you can still get that baby.  It may not be how you always thought it would happen, but it WILL happen.  They will probably still do a bunch of tests on you just so that they can rule out any additional issues.  These tests are not fun, but a lot of us have gone through them.  A lot of the tests have to be done at certain times in your cycle so you probably won’t have the IUI until the next cycle.

AFM, I’m just waiting to O.  I was hoping that I would today so that I could leave work early to go home and do my HCG shot since it has to be done between 2 and 4 in the afternoon. I’m having the hardest time concentrating on work today and would love any excuse to go hom…even taking a shot!  I’m on CD 12 and have usually gotten a positive OPK by now.  I’m thinking that the saline sonogram messed me up a little this cycle.  Hopefully I O soon.

@MellowMood:  hi there – sorry to you and your hubby for the bad SA results πŸ™ just wanted to ask if he’s been to a dietician/nutritionist/naturo for his IBS? Because the low FODMAP diet has changed hubby’s life this year (no exaggeration!!) – we were luckyto stumble across someone who is at the forefront researching it, and it’s having great success with around 75% of IBS sufferers. Hubby no longer has to take medicine daily, just occassionally if he has a flare-up. Absolutely recommend googling it and seeing if there is anyone you can see near you. Feel free to PM me if you want more information!!

I’m no expert by any means, but my naturo told me to steer clear of yoghurt for the moment – not sure if it was the dairy or what. I *think* that the cold/hot foods thing isn’t only about their current temperature, but what they do when being digested… or something?? But really not sure about that πŸ™‚

@cafegirl:  hi ladies – how are you going??

as for me, i’m CD19 and think i might be Oing today (temp jump and early morning +ve OPK, meaning my surge was yesterday). Taking it pretty easy again this cycle, not expecting much seeing as we’re in month 2 of the “don’t expect anything for the next 3 months” section of our Naturo treatment. But happy that this may only be a 31 day cycle – wooh! Hope you are all doing well!!!

CD 41 here…no sign of AF. Still having cramping daily. BFN on the HPT on Tuesday. Trying to decide when I should call the doctor. I would have thought if it were positive it would have shown up by now.

@funnybunny:  Glad you’re done with the SHG.  Sorry it was painful…evil test!!  Glad yours was normal though!  FX for your IUI!

@MellowMood:  I’m sorry about your DH’s SA results.  My DH also has crappy sperm, so if you ever want to talk about it feel free to message me.  It’s hard.  Sounds like you guys are smart in thinking about his meds as the possible culprit.  When we found out about my DH’s results we ended up getting a bunch of blood tests for him (unrevealing) and seeing a urologist (learned about his varicocele, which we could see anyway).  They also have FertilAid for men, which some people have success with, though it hasn’t worked for my DH.  It sounds like at least maybe your DH’s sperm is good enough for IUI though?  It might not seem like a blessing, but at least maybe you won’t need to move straight to IVF.

@ChuckNorris:  Thanks for the tip about dodgercpkl and the septum…we’ve been PM’ing and she’s been awesome and super helpful!

AFM…CD17 here, O’d yesterday.  Actually was able to BD with DH even though he’s working out of the country these two months because his brief visit home happened to correspond with my O.  We of course aren’t expecting much because of all our issues, but it was nice to see him anyway.  During his visit DH also went to get a repeat SA now that it’s been almost 3 months since his surgery…hope to have results next week.

I spoke with my REI (well, actually now they seem to have my main interaction be with the REI fellow — it’s a teaching hospital — which is a bit annoying because I’d rather talk to the attending, but at least the fellow spends plenty of time answering my many question).  Anyway, my actual REI looked at my SHG results and also recommends we go ahead with the hysteroscopy, so I will be doing that this month.  I need to schedule it once my period starts, so it will likely be the last week in November.  During the hysteroscopy if they see a septum they can go ahead and cut it out.  I’m a bit nervous about general anesthesia so I’m going to see if they can just heavily sedate me and do it, although the downside of that is more pain.  Sigh…this is never easy!  Overall I’m feeling in decent spirits though (especially since I’ve had a great weekend with DH!).  Hope all you ladies are doing well!

Hello,

It’s about time for me to make my way over here.. We just reached our 6th month/ 7th or so cycle of trying. A little about me:

  • Just turned 33 a few days ago
  • No biological children but a wonderful 11yr old daughter that DH brought along as a bonus
  • I was on BC off and on for 12 years and stopped in May
  • My cycles are pretty much running 26 days and haven’t surpassed 27 until this last cycle when I went 31 days

I hope to learn a lot from you ladies!!

@nyckitten:  I wish you the best of luck with your husband’s repeat SA! May I ask a stupid question? What is an REI? Reproductive endocrine internist, possibly? And what is the difference between a hysteroscopy and a laproscopy? I love the feeling of being in good spirits despite the odds being against you. I hope DH being home means during your recent fertile window means you won’t need to do any of that!

@MellowMood:  That conversation with your RE is not a fun one to have. I remember when my RE gave me the “I just want to give you the most realistic expectations” talk, in preparation for us trying to do IUI. I am sending prayers your way….

@ChuckNorris:  In my mind REI stands for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, but I might have made that term up. πŸ™‚  I think most people refer to their REI docs as their RE’s…it just seems weird to me since they really aren’t endocrinologists by primary training usually – they are OB/GYN’s who have done an REI fellowship in most cases (whereas actual endocrinologists are internal medicine docs who have done a fellowhsip in endocrinology).  But I think that’s my own unique terminology hang-up!  Just ignore me! πŸ™‚  Difference between a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy is a bit easier for me to answer…in a hysteroscopy they use a scope to go through your vagina and into the uterus, thus getting an “inside look.”  They can also thread surgical instruments through the scope to do surgeries inside the uterus.  A laparoscopy goes through the outside of your abdomen to look inside — usually with one site where the scope is inserted and separate sites where surgical instruments are inserted.  So the laparoscopy can see and work with the uterus from the outside, as well as other structures like the ovaries (or your liver, intestines, etc.).  Either hysteroscopies or laparoscopies could be done with the sole purpose of “taking a look” (diagnostic) or for a particular procedure/surgery.

Hope everyone is having a good Monday!  DH left today to go back to Canada for work, which is a bummer, but I’m hoping his 5 weeks away go quickly!

@ChuckNorris:  I got a positive OPK on Saturday and had the IUI on Sunday.  Of course my body decided that a weekend would be a great time to do all of this!  The good thing was that we were the only people at the lab when DH went to do his thing there and they cleaned the sperm quickly.  His motility is our issue and it was 24% pre wash and 96% post wash.  They said that anything over 75% was good!  Hopefully one of these swimmers makes it!!!  The IUI wasn’t that bad.  Now I am officially in the TWW.  Where are you in your cycle?  Did you finish the Clomid?
