if you don’t like the name, then don’t pick it. I personally have met a female Avery. I didn’t really like her as a person, though obviously the name has no bearing on that lol.

that being said, Avery is a unisex name, but more often used for girls recently.

I know Averys that are both male and female, so I voted unisex. I tend to think that it’s swinging more heavily female though.

The only Averys I know are male (one man, one boy) but once a name starts “turning” to the girls’ side, it usually falls out of favor for boys. I don’t think you’d have any problem with a girl named Avery, except that you don’t like the name, which is kind of a big problem. Smile

I think it can easily be either and it’s one of my top names for a girl at the moment.  But if we decide to use it, we plan on spelling it Avarie to girly it up a little.

@musician32992:  I’ll be honest. I’m a woman and Avery is my name. I think it is far prettier than Diana, Sophia and Rose, and over half of the time I’m introduced to someone they exclaim, “Oh, I LOVE your name!” It is a girl’s name, and a darn good one at that–your SO has good taste!

I like it as a girls name, and would have considered it if someone I used to work with didn’t just name his little boy Avery!

@musician32992:  “I’ve never met a female Avery and personally dislike the name.” I was just sharing with you how people equate Avery to being a “pretty”name. I believe almost everyone would consider, “Diana,” “Sophia” and “Rose” “pretty” names that fit in the same girly category even though Avery is bit more modern. If you’re having difficulties, I would suggest visiting the Swistle Baby Name website–that site has AWESOME name suggestions.

Sorry. In my mind it’s a girl’s name. I’ve never met a boy Avery. But it isn’t a common name, imo, either. I think Avery Rose sounds like a beautiful name.
