I got my paragard last month and am on my first period with it. It is AWFUL! Despite max doses of naproxen, I am still in a lot of pain, and have bled more today than the last six months combined. I am so frustrated! I don’t know how much more of this I can take. For those of you who have or had paragard, when did your periods improve? Thanks!

Have you checked out IUD Divas on Livejournal. There are lots of stories on there about Paragard!

I had paraguard and I loved everything about it except the fact that my periods were like niagara falls. Seriously it didn’t get better after years. I wore super tampons and thick pads the entire time but it was still better than hormones for me!

I have a Paragard and have for about 2 years– my periods took about three or four months to get less painful and involve less bleeding (the first couple months I had nasty cramps almost every day for two weeks before my period actually came, and then the periods were heavy and painful). Now, my periods are almost pain-free (this is very unusual) and the first 2 days are pretty heavy, and then it goes away pretty fast (within 3 or 4 days as opposed to 5, as happened before the IUD).
Hang in there. It really sucks at first but usually improves after a few periods (ugh, sorry, probably not the answer you wanted to hear as you’re feeling so bad and bleeding so much). Be sure to drink lots of water and eat iron-rich foods– kale, raisins, seaweed, red meat, etc.
Also, as MissAsB said, check out IUD Divas on Livejournal. I’m on there (as Draba, not very active lately), as are LOTS of super helpful posessors of IUDs.
