- Wedding: June 2013
I’ve put this post in a ‘barns in upstate NY?’ post that’s been around for years but I really think it’s important to spread the word on this
The Barn was BEAUTIFUL and everything I pictures in a wedding… however the owner was so frustrating to deal with in the final months and after the wedding…. here’s the story in a short.
Over the year of planning he was very helpful, always answered my phone calls and helped with any questions. I had read reviews that as soon as he got the final payment he stopped being so helpful but I gave him the benefit of the doubt because of course, there are two sides to every story (and brides can be crazy! gasp)
We had planned to use 2 of his bartenders at $100 a piece plus tips- he let both of them leave early and bartended himself, half the time he wasn’t behind the bar and my guests were pouring their own drinks.
We also agreed that he would set up tables and chairs for us, confirmed over email and phone- I walked in Friday morning to an empty barn and a ton of unplanned work for us.
Those are both just small instances, I know. Here’s the kicker
I had also read reviews that he wouldn’t give the $250 deposit back, finding reasons around the barn why it shouldn’t be returned. I cleaned the barn and made sure there was NOTHING that would leave my deposit to be unreturned.
4 weeks after the wedding and 2 emails later and still no deposit. Finally I got a lengthy email from the owner saying the DJ tore up the lawn and the pots were broken which was totally untrue! I had a dozen people to attest to that and the van didn’t even drive on the lawn (ugh!) they dollied all their equipment from the road!
Once I sent an email back asking for dated receipts and pictures proving the damage he responded with “sorry wrong wedding”
I’m not the only one this has happened to. If I can save one bride from that I’ll be happy!
Otherwise, it was an absolutely gorgeous wedding and I wouldn’t change a thing but I surely don’t appreciate shady people! Erg!
