- Wedding: October 2013
I was leaving work on October 27th 2012, it was a very cold and windy night. I was still wearing my Halloween costume, and excited to get home and see Elvin my boyfriend. He had handmade his own costume this year. As I climbed into my Silver Ford F-150 my best friends husband Chris ran up to me as I was getting into my car. He said to me “I need you to take me to your house to get jumper cables, my car battery is dead.” I replied to him “Oh, I think I have some in the truck.” He interrupted me and insisted they were on my back porch. As I pulled into my driveway I saw my prince charming and our two dogs sitting on the front porch. He was literally dressed as prince charming. I looked at Chris and said “What are they doing outside? It’s freezing!” I got out of the truck and quickly rushed to make it inside to escape the cold, crisp air as Elvin grabs my hand and says to me, “Wait, I want to tell you something.” As I looked up at him I admired his white military style suit, adorned with golden tassels, ropes and several medals I thought to myself “Man I have one silly man on my hands!” I had absolutely no idea what he was trying to do; I honestly did not expect him to propose anytime soon. It was understood that we would be together forever and that was enough for me at the time. He dropped down to one knee while holding my hands and began this very important moment by telling me how honored he is to have me in his life. He continued on by saying that he had taken a look around our home and thought about our life and realized it doesn’t get any better than this. He said he had been waiting for the perfect moment, for something very special, something grandiose when it hit him suddenly that our life is grandiose. He did not need anything more than me, our silly little dogs and our silly life. He proposed to me standing on the front porch of our home dressed as prince charming, with our two adopted dogs. True to my own character I spent the first part of his proposal telling him; “get up honey,” “I love you too, now let’s go inside,” “quit being silly,” “You’re not proposing are you?” “Honey the dogs just ran off!” However no matter how surprised I was, and distracting I could have been he continued to pour his heart out to me. I looked over to Chris, and that’s when Chris said “I don’t need jumper cables Sarah, Elvin asked me to be here to take pictures!” The following thoughts ran through my head so suddenly. Oh my gosh! It hit me like a ton of bricks!!! He is serious, he’s really proposing! This is really happening! I’m going to get to have this man for the rest of my life! Um, where did our dogs go? My thoughts were interrupted by the sweetest words I have ever heard from the man I love most of all. He said to me on bended knee, “Sarah Noel Brohawn, Will you marry me?” I replied “Of course!” He is the greatest man I have ever known, he knows and loves me for who I truly am, he loves my family, his family and supports me in anything my heart desires. With the strong love and foundation of friendship we have I know nothing can get in our way! I wouldn’t have it any other way, I could never find a greater love! I kissed him, hugged him and stood there in shock still. Elvin was so nervous he put the engagement ring on my right hand. I started laughing and told him of his mishap. While switching the ring to the other hand I helped him up to his feet and we hugged! It was the most unique and genuine moment of my life. Elvin expressed to me that once he had decided he wanted me for the rest of his life there was no time to go buy a ring, and he wasn’t going to wait another second to ask me. He spent that evening making and perfecting a handmade ring out of epoxy putty and jewels. This is one of my most prized possessions that I will cherish forever! I know it will never fall down the drain pipe, get lost at the beach or sold in hard times. It is a true display of love, from my true love. We spent the following ten minutes chasing our dogs down, his intention was to include them in the most important moment of our lives, but they had other plans. Elvin did a wonderful job of surprising me, and making me feel like the luckiest girl in the world and I cannot wait to be his wife.
